I'm getting my first ultrasound on Monday (so excited!) but am worried about what they told me to do to prepare. I'm supposed to drink 32oz of water an hour in half an hour an hour and a half before the appointment and then hold it until after the ultrasound is complete. Has anyone else had to do this? It sounds like torture considering how much I've had to pee lately!
Hopefully it'll all be worth it to see the results!
Re: Full Bladder for 1st Ultrasound?
Yes I need a full bladder. They didnt specify how much, just said full.
I remember from the first one with DS, I just drank a ton in the car on the way over.
For one u/s, I had drank a lot and they didn't have a good view, so I was told to use the bathroom and then the view was more clear. Just do what you can.
My little man at 0-1-2
yes you need a full bladder.
I did it yesterday and it wasn't too bad.
Yes they told me the same thing. I ended up drinking 20oz. starting about 30mins before the appt. and then finishing it on the way. It wasn't too bad and they had no trouble seeing! Good luck!
My super all about me birth story:
Then: Fraternal twins born at 26 weeks in 1983. Me: 640 grams. Brother: 840 grams. Family kept watch in the NICU for 5 months before being allowed to go home. On oxygen for a year and a half after being released.
Now: Me: PhD student and married. Brother: Lawyer and married.
Dad's wedding speech: Thank you to all the family who stood watch and prayed for our children's survival. Well now the little scrawny chicken is married. Who would've thought? (Thanks dad for making me laugh and cry at the same time).
My BFP Chart
I am always amazed by these posts requiring patients to consume vast amounts of water for an ultrasound. With DD, I ended up having a lot of u/s and was always asked to empty my bladder before the u/s. The tech never had a problem seeing anything. With this baby, I had an abdominal u/s at 10 weeks...again, with an empty bladder. No problems.
My BFP Chart
32 oz seems a bit much considering your bladder typically only holds about 18 oz, https://hypertextbook.com/facts/2001/DanielShaw.shtml . I was never asked to do this and I had to have several u/s early in my preg. GL
