Hip pain/discomfort - what has helped?

I'm sure I'm not the first to ask, but I'm having some definite hip pain/discomfort lately. Usually after sitting (desk, or car ride), but not always. I've only gained about 8 or 9 pounds, so I'm guessing this is more due to the loosening of ligaments.

Have any of you found something that helped? I do yoga once a week. Are there positions in yoga you've found more helpful than others? Other exercises? I'm open to try anything. With 17 weeks or so left, I need to manage this a bit if I can!
And i'm shaken then i'm still. When your eyes meet mine, i lose simple skills. Like to tell you all i want is now. Anniversary Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker

  • I go to a chiropractor pretty regularly and highly recommend it.  He can usually pop me into a few positions that really help with my back/hip pain.

    This!!

finding a chiropractor that your insurance covers and you like will help more then anything else ever could. They can also recommend stretches and exercises that will help!

  • Mine hurt really badly too if I'm still for a long time (mainly at night)! As long as I move around a lot during the day the pain usually stays away, but at night I use a pillow between my legs, until THAT hurts, and then I go without it, and I just alternate that way. Child's pose in yoga feels really good to my hips, as well, if I spread my knees apart to let my belly rest on the floor. Hope you find what works for you!!

Warm baths...around week 16 I hurt so bad I could barely move and trying to sleep was awful. I found taking a warm bath relaxed the muscles enough that I could sleep, I also did a lot of stretching.

  • My yoga teacher recommended sleeping on the side with a rolled towel under the curve of your side (where it normally doesn't touch the mattress) and with a pillow between your knees.  It helps with both hip and shoulder pain.
  • Sitting up higher has helped somewhat (i sit on a sturdy pillow at all times), but I really need to see a massage therapist or chiropractor.
  • I always found that sitting on an excercise ball and rocking my hips back and forth and really giving them a good stretch would help with the discomfort.  When I was pregnant, I had terrible hip pain and that was the only thing that worked for me short of going to a chiropractor (which I didn't want to do)!

  • Pigeon pose is GREAT for stretching your hips. That was my saving grace all through my last pregnancy.
