Hi! I just found out yesterday that we are having twins! I am shocked! We went for our 20 week u/s and they told us there were 2. It looks like a boy and a girl. We also have 2 boys, ages 2 and 4. Now I know why I have been so sick, exhausted, heartburn, etc. I thought it was just awful b/c it was the 3rd and I had 2 boys to take care of. I don't know anything about twins so I feel like a new parent again.
I still can't believe we'll have 4 kids.
I haven't been on the bump for awhile but used to be on 2 under 2 most of the time b/c our boys are 22 mos apart.
Does anyone recommend any books, websites, etc to read? I'm especially concerned with being able to nurse both since I nursed both of my boys. I found the FAQ on here and have been looking at it.
My OB referred me to a perinatal dr. in addition to seeing her. I'm guessing everyone with twins does this? How often do you see the perinatal dr? She also mentioned monthly u/s. Fortunately, I had problem free pregnancies with my 1st 2 and fast labors - not sure if this will mean anything with 2. Do many twins go into the NICU?
What does DSNG stand for? I saw it on more than 1 post.
Re: Surprised to be here!
Congrats and welcome! I can't imagine finding out at 20 weeks. It took me a long time to get used to the idea.
I see an MFM/perinatologist in addition to my OB. Most of the ladies on this board see both, some more than others. as for NICU time, in general I think babies under 5lbs go to the NICU to a least be monitored as do most babies born before 34 weeks. There's no "standard" when it comes to twins though, so you'll get a lot of different answers. As for DSNG, that one's easy= Double snap n go stroller frame for infant seats.
CONGRATULATIONS!! Your intro sounds a lot like mine! We also found out we were having two girls at 20 weeks. I'm sure you'll never forget that day! I am just seeing my regular OB. Since we learned there were twins, I have been having an appointment every two or three weeks, and I'll be getting an ultrasound about every month.
Like some of the PPs said, get lots of water, rest as much as possible (hard to do with two LOs!) and try not to stress. Good luck to you!
Thanks for the welcome and info. I already learned from reading these posts.
BritterBee, your situation sounds familiar.
From your ticker, it looks like you have already had your twins. How is it with twins and 2 older boys? Our boys will still be 2 and 4 when the twins arrive. It must be strange having a girl after the boys.
