Cloth Diapering

New

Hello!!

We are going to be using cloth diapers for our baby. (yay!) And we are currently working on our baby registry, a few questions have come up...

1. Diaper pail, do we need one? I am assuming yes, what kind do you recommend? I was almost thinking doing a cloth laundry bin type of style, then I can just clean the linen part rather than have to get liners.

2.Rash cream or lotions. I know there are certain ones you can not use with cloth diapers but can you recommend some that we can use? And with that, does it matter what kind of wipes we use, I assume no but again.. no clue! :)

Thanks, and input or help is appreciated! And sorry if these questions seem silly, just trying to get a grip on all this! :)

    Hello!!

We are going to be using cloth diapers for our baby. (yay!) And we are currently working on our baby registry, a few questions have come up...

    1. Diaper pail, do we need one? I am assuming yes, what kind do you recommend? I was almost thinking doing a cloth laundry bin type of style, then I can just clean the linen part rather than have to get liners. most people seem to use either a hanging PUL bag or a cheap step on garbage can with a PUL pail liner.  The liner goes into the wash with your diapers.

2.Rash cream or lotions. I know there are certain ones you can not use with cloth diapers but can you recommend some that we can use? And with that, does it matter what kind of wipes we use, I assume no but again.. no clue! :)You definitely need diaper safe cream.  Popular brands are Earthmama Angel Baby Bottom Balm, Grandma Els, CJ's BUTTer, California Baby and coconut oil.  I use EarthMama mostly.

Thanks, and input or help is appreciated! And sorry if these questions seem silly, just trying to get a grip on all this! :)

  • Welcome!

1.The most popular dirties storage solutions here seem to be either a hanging wetbag (what I use) or a kitchen step can with a pail liner. So, no, you don't need a diaper pail in the traditional sense. I don't know if a cloth laundry bin would be a very good choice for diapers. I would think you would have leakage issues since it's not waterproof.

    2. I've used Grandma El's, Earth Momma Angel Baby and coconut oil with no issues. As far as wipes, I made mine from some leftover flannel.

  • 1) We actually use a diaper pail (Genie Elite) only because it was given to us at our shower and we figured we would give it a shot. It works for us. I have used both the plastic disposable liners and a pail liner (that I made) We now use only the pail liner, it holds more, I made it huge.

Yet, the most popular around here is the good ole garbage can with a lid and pedal.

    2) We use both Grandma Elm's and Burt's Bees. BBs is our favorite. We use a fleece liner with every diaper change, with or without using cream; so we have never had a problem (BBs is still up for debate on if it is 100% CD safe.)

Wipes are your preference. We use cloth at home, which are baby washcloths that I use a peri bottle (you will get one from the hospital) to wet them with water, and put them in the wipes warmer;  they work perfect. Put a bunch on your registry, people will buy you a ton i'm sure. We use sposie wipes when out and about.

You will learn a lot just by lurking around on the board, and girl, ask away!

  • We use a diaper pail. We just bought a kitchen sized garbage can and line it with a diaper pail liner for cloth diapers. We just wash that and the diapers all together. The can has a lid so it is really nice.

We have only used the rash cream a couple times, but I would still have it on hand just in case. I noticed LO got a nasty rash when he was sick. We use desitin and just line the diapers with fleece liners.

We just use huggies natural care wipes.
