Adoption

*Jennissilly** re: Colombia adoptions

Hi! I was wondering if you are pursuing adoption in Colombia.? I've recently started looking into this and an agency I contacted said they have a shorter wait than the 2-3 years I've been reading about. I figured we could share info if your interested.

  • I would lpve to hear info as well. We really want to adopt from Colombia but they Sao out youngest has to be 30 months before we can even start, which stinks :/
Married on 3.20.2004. It took 30 month, 2 failed adoptions and IVF for our first miracle. We have had 9 foster kids since he was born and started the domestic adoption process when he was 10 month old, we had 4 failed matches in that time. After our daughter was born we brought her home and spent 2 weeks fearing we might lose her because of complications that came up. But Praise God all went through and she is ours forever! • May- where did you see this?  Ive got alot of info and dont remember reading it (could be that my son is 4 though). I know they just emphasize about keeping the birthorder in your family and things about the parents ages.

  • Thanks for sharing!  The agency we are strongly considering has wait times of 6 months-3 years, so I know that it's entirely possible to wait less then 2-3 years.  We are in the same boat as MayDay Girl- our daughter will not be 30 months for another 14 months. (Not to mention, to save for the adoption plus travel fee's, and for DH to save up vacation time to be there the bulk of the 4-9 week in country stay with me, we need about 14 months!)

In my research it seems as though there are two seperate groups that adopt out of Colombia- there are private agencies, like those used in the states, as well as the central welfare organization in Colombia (IFSC or something like that).  I think that the waits can be shorter with private agencies but I think we'd prefer to use their central governing body from feedback and reviews I've read.

Thanks for sharing this though- and I wish you luck on your journey!
