November 2011 Moms

Is there such thing as too much solids at this age?

Obviously, yes if it is interfering with formula or BM intake, but besides that, can they eat too much at this age?

Last night, we were out to dinner and they didn't have any steamed veggies so I order a pancake to give DD, I know really healthy, I also had some pureed sweet potatoes, and gave her bites of my baked potato.  She ate 1/3 jar of SP, almost half of the pancake and a few handfuls of potato.  It was amazing how much she was eating, I kept thinking she was going to stop but she didnt'!!!  Obviously, pancakes aren't the best for her, but she does the same with fruit in the morning, this morning she ate an astounding amount of fruit.  This whole feeding herself thing is turning her into a little piggy!!

  • My DD is the same way.  She devours finger foods like no tomorrow.  And now that her pincer grip is getting there, so much more is actually getting eaten and less on the floor.  She still nurses well and will nurse right after going to town on the better part of slice of pork loin(!) so I am going with the assumption its ok for her.

  • As long as she's still getting her liquid calories, I wouldn't worry about it

I agree. If she was dropping ounces or feedings, I'd be worried. But until then, eat away!!

  • I was wondering the same thing... but I think it's just fun for them. And, I have noticed that DD will stop when she is full.  She starts to play with her food more when she's done.
