Do not do this. Your H is not a professional and could introduce infection. Plus, I doubt he would know what he was even looking for...what if he accidentally broke your water? Airman's wife's MW accidentally broke hers...and she's a professional who has been doing this kind of thing for years, so to leave it up to a man who has never been a woman and doesn't know a woman's anatomy in specific medical detail is absurd. Again, do not do this.
Also, you're not even full-term yet. I know you're anxious, but it's not worth the risk, at all.
Actually, last night I was in a lot of pain (sudden timeable contractions every 6 minutes for 2 hours that just stopped suddenly). DF was panicked and trying to read the information packet the hospital sent us over to determine whether or not I was "in labour".
He's like... "Contractions! You're having those! Your stomach is tigthening up! Your nauseated! Cervix.. Cervix... Where is your cervix?" I said no. Definitley not. Knowing my luck he'd grab a foot or something and pull th ebaby out the wrong way.
BAD idea. I heard of a girl whose DH broke her water this way and she wound up having an emergency c-section before she was full term, baby had to go to NICU and everything.
Seriously, it's a really really really dumb idea.
Even when your OB checks you at your appointment it doesn't mean ANYTHING.
my dh is a physician and checked my cervix during my first pregnancy. We have sterile gloves at the house. I will probably have him do it again when I am in labor this time so I can avoid going in too early.
My DH did this once when I was in labor with DS... he is a critical care paramedic (at least thats what they're called in Canada) and often treats pregnant women. We also used sterile gloves...
Although he couldn't really tell how dilated I was, he could tell the DS's head was really low. Then DS was born about 3 hours later.
I wouldn't recommend doing this though unless you have training... and the proper sterile gloves.
My husband is the most impatient man alive and has been asking me to let him check for over a week now. (This will not actually be happening) The once a week from the Dr is apparently not enough for him. He is convinced I am in labour every second of the day
