My son is a cheerio

I was to embarrassed to admit it yesterday when everyone was naming their child based on what they love to eat, but my guy is a cheerio.  I offer veggies and fruits, and he will eat them sometimes but he definitely loves cheerios the most.  Is my son the only one that loves junk/snack food?

I really want him to eat better, but its just not happening right now.  Any suggestions other than to keep offering fruits and veggies to him?

Re: My son is a cheerio

  • Ha ha! I was the one that started that post. Don't feel bad. I was torn between saying that DD was a blueberry or a graham cracker! She would also eat puffs for every meal, if possible. I give DD her meal in courses. First I offer veggies/fruit when she is most hungry. Once I feel like she has eaten those then I offer something like pasta or cheese (which she loves). You might want to try that.

  • Don't feel bad... my child can inhale some cheerios, animal crackers, and goldfish.  Loves them.

Keep offering them... and maybe in different ways or not your standard fruits and veggies.  Maybe your LO is more of a Kiwi fan :).  And on days when C won't eat his green veggies, I give him a veggie puree pouch to make sure he gets those nutrients.  I have a friend that hides veggie purees in EVERYTHING- from mac and cheese to brownies.

My son love Cheerio's too.  I am sure he loves them as much as your son.  THe only think is that I don't buy them b/c I feel they give him enough at school.

  • Cherrios are good! Not junk food - show me a kid who DOESN'T love cherrios!

  • Thanks ladies! Now I don't feel so bad.  Of course my hubby tells me not to worry but I told him that he should see what some of the other kids are eating haha.  I will keep offering the fruits and veggies and pray that it gets better.  I did start adding raisins and crasins into the cheerio bowl!  So thats a start :)

  • My LO is very picky. She will not eat vegetables off her tray, so I still give her purees. Sure, she's too old for them (13 months) BUT I figure I'd rather me feed her and she get some nutrients than she not get any nutrients at all...

  • I do feed him purees from the pouch.  He seems to still like those, but he refuses from the jar.  Picky kid!
