So, my DD is 5 months, 1 week old, and she has always been on the early side of the motor skill milestones (rolled over tummy to back at 2 months, 1 day and then rolled back to tummy about a week or two later, has been sitting unassisted for a few weeks now, etc.). But I keep reading about everyone's babies on here who are belly laughing and giggling, and I am wondering if she is really far behind on her communication/expressions? She coos and shrieks like a pteradactyl when she is happy, but she doesn't yet make repetitive noises (bababa, gagaga, mamama) and hasn't broken into actual giggles/belly laughs. The pteradactyl screech occurs several times a day, but it hasn't progressed any further.
Anyone else's 5 month olds not laughing yet?
Re: Anyone's Feb. babies not laughing/giggling yet?
Ha! Apparently my DD would much rather master "inward singing" (sucking air in and vocalizing at the same time). This lovely noise sounds a lot like choking or the "whoop" in whooping cough, but she does it all the time and she cracks herself up, while freaking me out!
Aria will belly laugh, but she's a tough critic. You better be pretty dang funny, or you won't get one out of her.
As far as noises go, when she learns to make one, she'll do it constantly for an entire week... Then she'll learn something else (motor or mental/verbal) and "forget" her new noise for another week or two. It'll resurface when the new wears off of her latest trick.
Theyre just babies... They'll get it in their own time.
