Pregnant after a Loss

Disability Starts Next week!

So, I went in for a check up today.  I brought my SDI paperwork with me as well as my birth plan.  My Dr informed me that I can start my disability next week.  I told him that I wanted to save it all for after baby, but he informed me that I can only use the "disability" portion before baby, and the maternity portion after.  Seeing how my hours are severely reduced during the summer months, DH and I both agreed to go ahead and start my SDI next week.  I'll probably end up with a slightly higher income than what I've been receiving anyway.  I just don't know what to do with all the time that I'll have on my hands :)  Maybe I can start a blanket for baby...  Also, my appointments will be weekly from here on out.  I can't believe how soon I will be meeting LO!

Hmmm, interesting.  I am by no means an expert at any of this, but I would double check that what your dr. Said is accurate, and that by taking time off now, it will not cut into your time off after lo comes.  I am using my disability after lo is born, and if I take time off before, it cuts into my time off after.

If your doc is writing you off for complications even if there aren't any, then you'd be under short term disability I think or at least that's how it is with my job.  Then after birth its just normal maternity leave.

Through my company, I will still be eligible for my 12 weeks FMLA (this has nothing to do with being paid, just job security).  However, I will not be able to collect the paid 4 weeks allotted for state disability after the baby is born.  It's only offered for 4 weeks prior to delivery.  Paid maternity leave (from the state) is for 6 weeks following delivery.

There are certain states where it is a use it or lose it situation.  NJ is one of them.  I'm entitled to 4 weeks of STD before my delivery.  I can take it or not.  W/ my daughter, I worked up till the night before she was born (not on purpose, went into labor early).  This time I took a full 4 weeks off before my scheduled c/s date.  I still get the exact same amount of time after.

Ahh, I see, it's a state thing.  Enjoy your time off!

Have fun!! Blankets are always time-consuming. Hopefully you start nesting hardcore and that can occupy your time. One month, how exciting!!
