Potty Training

Has anyone started thinking about this / started to introduce the potty yet?  Logan is very interested in the potty and he sits on it while we "go".  He also is dry for more than 2 hours at a time.  I know that those are both signs that they may be ready to start, but he just seems so young yet?  My friend said that I should and that she had all of hers potty trained by 15 months...but I don't know...?

Re: Potty Training

  • We'll probably start casually at home between 15 and 18 months.  DD is starting back at DC next month, so I'm not sure at what age they start encouraging PT with the toddlers.

  • I would love to start PT now, but I just don't think DS is ready.  He lasts over 2 hours being dry, but he would sit in a dirty diaper all day without complaining.  Also, he starts back at DC in mid-August, and I'm not sure how supportive they are of starting this early.  We just started TTC #2, and I would love to have DS1 PT by the time the new baby gets here.

  • We have been putting DD on the potty since she was 9 months. She was doing really well and would dirty only 1-2 diapers a day. However lately she has decided she has better things to do then sit on the potty. Every time I put her on the potty she immediately stands up and takes off running. Hopefully she will start using it again soon. I was hoping to have her out of diapers by 18 months since that is when DD#2 is due and I don't want 2 babies in diapers.

  • Holy crap!  I am not even thinking about it.  I am still working on DS!  When she shows an interest I will see what happens, but until then I am not going to even attempt.  We have all the necessary supplies to PT, but I know she is not physically capable of it yet.

  • I would love to get DS potty trained before #2 comes which is in December. DS is showing some interest but not sure if it is realistic or not.

  • I was wondering this the other day (when is the right time and what are the signs or readiness). But I figured it's not until at least 18 months or so, but my mom told me that she used to sit me and brother on the potty since we were 12 mo, and we were both potty trained at the age of two. She cloth diapered both of us and I CD DS so I don't know if that is true what they say about CD babies being easier to potty train or not but I figured it wouldn't hurt to start trying...
  • We started about 2 months ago.  Almost every poop is in the potty (Boon potty bench).  DS makes is super obvious when he is about to poop so I just put him on the potty and he goes (we watch the same youtube video every. single. time).  He almost immediately started initiating the potty on his own, but no pressure form us.

  • Unless she starts to show interest in it this year at all--my plans are next summer when school is off and I am home with her every day instead of working. She does go to my MIL's during the work week--and I definitely won't complain if she wants to attempt it, but I figure it is something that I should work on with her--and next summer is completely free.
