SHOES: not baby related, but pregnancy related for sure!

I teach and I am in need of comfortable shoes I can wear with dresses, skirts, dress pants, and such.

Any recommendations?!

Re: SHOES: not baby related, but pregnancy related for sure!

  • I bought three pairs of comfy flats at Payless a couple of weeks ago: a black pair, a neutral pair, and a cute striped pair. So far I've worn them with pants, jeans, capris, skirts, and dresses. I've noticed my feet are more prone to swelling when I wear heels so I've moved to pretty much exclusively flats and cute flip flops :)

  • I wear naturalizer. They have cute sandals and they are so comfortable for long time standing!

Thanks! I have been wearing flats all summer and my feet have started to bother me more and more as I get heavier...yuck! I told DH I don't want to be over weight ever, it is SO hard on my back and feet!

I do need to check out payless though, thanks for reminding me!

  • Also a teacher! I have struggled for years with a bad back (thanks, gymnastics lol) and I never buy shoes full price because I destroy them in one school year of being on my feet constantly. I can give you suggestions for what I wear! :o)

Last year a friend recommended these Cole Haan wedges with Nike Air technology https://www.colehaan.com/colehaan/catalog/product.jsp?catId=100&productId=560489&productGroup=560491. They are incredible! A little pricey, but SO worth it (I got them at a CH outlet store for way cheap). The Nike Air technology also comes in flats. I get compliments on them all the time, and they are super duper comfortable. I have 3 pairs now! I'm only 5'1" so when I get my pants hemmed at the tailor I leave room for a short heel :o)

For flats, I love jcrew (again, at the outlet with my teacher discount these shoes end up being dirt cheap). Very comfy and cute colors! Great with skirts, too. https://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/shoes/ballets/PRDOVR~36243/36243.jsp

Another teacher friend swears by Merrells, especially with pants (not really my style, though). I think they might look a little odd with skirts or capris, but they are also VERY comfortable. https://www.merrell.com/US/en-US/Product.mvc.aspx/20467W/23363/Womens/Encore-Groove-Pro?dimensions=0

I used to buy cheap shoes and found they do more harm than good. IMO it's worth investing in a couple of great quality shoes to prevent aches and pains! Good luck! :o)

  • This is relevant to my interests. When summer is over and I can't wear flip-flops, none of my shoes will fit.

A friend recommended Sanuks for a shoe that will slip on easy and has some support. I don't think they are dressy enough for what you need though.

  • When I used to teach, I wore Dansko clogs almost every day.  I still have them, because they last forever.  I have a black pair, a brown pair and a netural suede pair.  They aren't the cutest... but they're not horrible, and they're super comfortable and easy on the back. They even have some fun materials/patterns.

I taught middle school, and some of the girls who were getting into "fashion" and what not asked me why I wore cute clothes with the same old shoes every day.  I told them that I didn't get paid enough to wear uncomfortable shoes! Haha!!

Also, ditto PPs suggestion of Cole Haans with Nike Air, those are my go to now. Nordstrom Rack has a pretty reliable selection.  I can usually get a pair there for about $50-$75.

  • I spent the past year student-teaching and I wore a pair of LifeStride loafers every single day.  I spent forever looking for the right shade of grey/taupe that could go with brown or black pants.  I ended up getting an excellent deal on them on sale at DSW, and my feet stayed happy all year.  Of course, now they're basically destroyed and I need to find another pair of comfy shoes.

  • I really love the Sofft brand, so comfy and cute.

I agree, spend a little more on a good pair and they will make your life so much better.
