Taking matters in my own hands...

I've been waiting for 4 months for DH to finish our bathroom remodel.  Everything is done execpt the trim work and hanging the closet door.  I have decided I'm done waiting for him to get around to it.  I taught myself (rather youtube did) how to tape and mud drywall.  I can certainly cut and install trim and a door right?!

He will also be shocked when I rip the carpets up.  I'm sick of talking about it, its time to just do it!

Trim is pretty easy, but I would be afraid to install a door by myself.

I'm not so worried about making a mistake because I can fix that.  I'm worried about using the saw.  But I figure if I can cut tile, I can cut wood.

You will do fine!  Like pp said, just be absolute on your measurement before you cut!  And if you are unsure, cut it a little long.  You can always cut more off, but cant make it magically longer if you cut too short.  When you are doing the door, just make sure that the frame is really square before you hang the door.  You can check the squareness of the frame pretty easily.  Get a tape measure and measure diagonally from one top corner to the opposite corner on the floor.  Measure the other top corner the same way.  If the numbers are the same, or very very close, then you are square.  GL!

When I take on things that require handy work I always royally screw up. So all I have to do is threaten to do it myself and DH is on it. I wouldn't take on the door myself, it took us a full day to put in 5 doors.

I always have to wait for my DH to do something! And I have no patience so I always end up just doing them or start doing them and that magically lights the fire under his bottom to do them because he doesnt want me doing them pg! Good luck!

Definitely wood is so much easier than tile. I'm like this too. I hate waiting for DH to do things and well honestly I come from a DIY family so I have way more experience with this kinda thing than he does, so sometimes there's no point in waiting.

Well I talked to DH about it last night and he agreed that it needed to be finished and that we could work on the downstairs bathroom together this weekend.  I also asked him if he could move the claw foot tub in the upstairs bathroom because I want to paint that bathroom too.  The look on his face was priceless.  I believe he was thinking...oh no, my wife's at it again!

Just remember, measure twice and cut once. Wink You can do it!!

This. Trim and drywall are much easier to deal with than people think. Don't let it overwhelm you. The door on the other hand- it may be a good idea to let someone help you with. They are big and bulky and it's hard to hand them alone. (well, it is if your 5 feet tall and have t-rex arms.)
