Babies: 3 - 6 Months

103 fever after 4m shots

DS had his 4 month shots this afternoon & now has a 103.2 fever & is refusing his bottle. I was wondering if anyone has experienced this? I'm not sure when I should start worrying :/

  • Have you given Tylenol? Called his pedi? If Tylenol hasn't helped then I call the pedi--if even for my own reassurance.

  • Also recommend tylenol, My LO had a bad reaction to her 4 mo shots. Tylenol got her swelling and heat at the injection site to go down enough for her to stop crying and nurse for comfort. She then fell asleep and woke up my normal happy girl.
  • Motrin is a better fever reducer so I'd start with that.

Motrin is not to be used on infants younger than 6 months of age

OP: give your LO some Tylenol, and call your pedi to see what they say. DD2 had a fever for a couple days after her shots, and the nurse told me I didn't have to worry unless her temp. was 102.5 or higher.

I must disagree. Depending on the weight of the baby, Infant Motrin can be used. But check with the dr office. Good Luck. We used Infant Motrin with our now 4 yr old son, when he was 5 months. It was recommand by the pediatrician. But, again check with the doctor's office.

My bad!  I forgot what board I was roaming on.  But it's not a flat out "not to be used" it's a question for the pedi.  And if baby is 12 pounds, s/he would actually fall into the "6 month" category. The issue is weight moreso than age.

  • Definitely consider Tylenol or Motrin (like pp mentioned, check the weight)  Keep the baby cool, get a wash cloth wet with luke-warm to cool water and place on their forehead and back of the neck.

  • I was told to call immediately if DDs fever went over 101. I would definitely call. Babies that young shouldn't have a fever that high.
