Trouble TTC

Bicycle accident

Yesterday I was out on a bike trail with my husband and some friends. We planned to stop for ice cream along the way, but the sign for the thice cream stand was partly hidden behind a bush. I stopped fast when I saw it and flipped over the front of my handlebars (my husband said I did a full 360). I'm just glad no one was coming from the other direction and my husband (who was right behind me) was able to pull over without running me over.

After lying on the grass for a few minutes we assessed the injuries as follows: top of left hand and left elbow road rashes and bleeding, top of left shoulder road rashed, right palm cut and bleeding, giant bruise on top of left thigh, road rash and bleeding on inner left thigh (no idea how I managed that one), left knee bruised and bleeding, and right elbow unable to bend.

The guys rode back for the cars and my friend helped to pour water in my wounds. Then we got the ice cream anyway, on principle. That's when I realized I really couldnt use my right arm. My brain was telling it to move, but it would not obey, I tried moving it with my left hand and I couldn't get it to bend the right way. Luckily the guys returned with the cars an hour later. My husband wanted to bring me to the ER right away, but I wanted to wait a few hours (I'm just so sick of doctor appts and with insurance...).

A few hours later it was not any better, so I agreed to go to the ER. They did some and said it might be fractured. Apparently there was too much swelling for them to see a fracture, but the swelling led them to believe there might be one. The radiologist is supposed to look it over this morning and I will get a call.  The ER doc wanted me to take Vicodin but I'm not sure about that. I'm worried that it could interfere with my cycle or interact with fertility related medications (we are doing clomid + injects this cycle). The doc said it should be fine but I'd rather hear that from my RE first. So far I haven't taken anything at all, but I may try ibuprofen or Tylenol to see if it reduces swelling. I just don't want to do anything that could ruin this cycle, it has been a crazy journey getting to this point and I don't want to deal with any more roadblocks!

On the bright side, elbows are not necessary for making babies. We will just have to bd kind of awkwardly!

  • Wow! Sounds like you had quite a fall! FX your arms not broken. FWIW, don't take ibuprofen, take the Tylenol. Hopefully your RE will let you know about the Vicodin, but I know that the ibuprofen will interact with the meds. Good Luck and I hope you feel better soon :)
