Pregnant after 35

Just when I thought an induction was in sight...

LO has been measuring big since 2nd tri.  I've had growth U/S. Most recent one at 35wk 5d showed he was a few oz shy of 8lbs (90th percentile). (No GD)  I thought for sure with those results my Dr would talk induction at 37wks or so... NOT SO.  Apparently elective inductions aren't considered until 39 weeks. Ugh! I know it's only a few more weeks and growth U/S aren't accurate but the thought they could be underestimated too scares me - and everyday seems an eternity!

anyways - just wanted to "vent" and have my pity party - I'm so uncomfortable these days...

  • I'm with you -- except she's in the 95th percentile, estimated 7 lbs at 34w1d. My OB won't induce for size alone which actually is ok with me, but I'm terrified regardless -- and super uncomfortable. I feel like there's a baby horse instead of a human in there when she rolls around!

  • I was in tears after my appt - I was so disappointed. Mostly out of frustration - I'm just sooo ready! :)

My sis was also measuring large and they guestimated baby would be approx 9lbs so they induced her a week before her due date.  My nephew came out 10.4 oz and they had to do a c-sec he was stuck. That is my biggest fear.

I feel like there's a watermelon between my legs! haha!

  • Well, in case it helps: my OB says inductions have a much greater chance of leading to a c-section (I guess b/c you'll have contractions, but won't necessarily dilate enough).  So here's hoping we can both hang in there and avoid surgery!

  • If it helps, I thought Evelyn was going to be HUGE because she felt huge in there.  Now DD1 was 8lbs and DS was 9lbs so I thought I understood what a big baby felt like.  Then at my 38 weeks ultrasound Evelyn measured 6lbs 3 oz.  They then explained that the scan could be off by 12 ounces so I assumed she was more like 7 lbs and would be an 8 lbs baby.  She was born at 6 lbs 3 oz.  Perfectly fine and definitely my smallest baby.  OH and labor and delivery was the easiest with my 9pounder

This. Also OP, you're not even full term yet. I wouldn't rush it. I had my 39 week appointment Monday and my OB was reluctant to discuss induction - said we might not even discuss it at 40 weeks.

Totally different tune than the OB that said she wouldn't let me go past 40 weeks, but whatever.

All of this. My ob is always saying inductions can lead to C-sections. I would rather avoid one unless necessary!

This, this and this! I know you want baby OUT but let it cook a little bit longer - so much better for the long-term. And like everyone keeps telling *me* ... you are strong enough, stronger than you think, and you can do this! FX for a healthy delivery soon!

All of this, again. And yes, I know I'm quoting myself :P

The OB I saw on Monday, for my 39 week appointment, said I was still closed up tight and that since my body is clearly not ready yet an induction at this point would likely lead to c/s.

  • Some doctors do seem to be rather odd about suggesting inductions. With DD, I had an appointment two days before my due date which was on a Wednesday. The doctor said they normally didn't schedule inductions until more than a week past the due date, but since she was anticipated a little large (at least for me, at 8+ lbs) they didn't want her to stay in potentially too long either. Plus, they only planned inductions on Mondays (seems a bit weird to me too.). So I was schedule for induction Monday past my due date.... DD had other plans and came on her own that Sunday. :)
