Broken Collarbone (Poll)

We just found out the other day that DD has a broken collarbone from her birth.  We were told it's very common, and that some don't even know it.  We found out because she developed a knot in her shoulder.  What about you all?

Re: Broken Collarbone (Poll)

  • Not a broken collarbone, but he did experience neck trauma from the birth and didn't exhibit symptoms until 3 weeks afterward. That was a scary day at the ER...

  • DS, who was over 9 pounds, shoulder got stuck.  They were concerned about shoulder dystocia so they did this thing called McRoberts maneuver and DS was fine but he had to be checked over by several different doctors.  My OB and pedi said sometimes if an OB can they will break the collarbone on purpose to avoid the long term effects of  shoulder dystocia, which can include paralysis and brain damage . Both said collarbones heal pretty easily

  • We didn't have any broken bones but 2 relatives recently had babies with broken collarbones. I have never heard of it until the first one was born but they were both told it's common.
