Bfing=pacifier and starting daycare

Ds will occasionally take a pacifier but most of the time if he gets really upset, bfing is the only thing that calms him down quickly. I have less than 2 weeks before I go to work, and I'm nervous about him starting at the babysitter and getting upset and not wanting the pacifier. I guess this is just a vent, but have any of your LOs gone to dc with this issue and did it work out? I'm hoping when he's not with me, he'll be comforted by the pacifier.

Re: Bfing=pacifier and starting daycare

  • Yes and Yes. I about 2-3 weeks before I went back to work I had a family member watch DD frequently (but not as long as she would be at DC) just to test the waters. It worked out really well that way, and I was able to get everything I needed to done to get ready to return to work, as well as give me an idea of what it would be like trying to get around, get DD around, and be out of the door under a time restraint. I highly suggest you try something like this!! GOOD LUCK.

    I think that you will find this is the case.  When DD wants to BF, and she is with me, nothing else will satisfy her.  She is much more willing to go with the flow if she is with my DH or DCP.

  • Your DS will be ok.  He is smart and he knows that when you're around, he can nurse.  When you're not around, he'll know that isn't an option and will likely be more accepting of the pacifier.

  • Thanks ladies! That makes me feel better. I guess I'm just thinking about everything that can go wrong because I'm nervous about going back!
