Re: Clueless about maternity clothes!

  • I wear about the same size maternity clothes. Maybe one size up in pants because I put weight on my thighs.

I get most of my maternity clothes from Target, so not much help to you there. I did order some stuff from Old Navy last week, but I'm returning half of it due to sizing issues...I need to try stuff on.

  • I shopped Motherhood Maternity online and I got the size the corresponded with the size I was before I got pregnant. I did go up a little bit bc I had recently lost weight and gone from a 12 to a 10 or an 8 but got maternity clothes in a 12/L.

  • A lot of the websites have sizing charts to help you correspond your pre-maternity size to maternity.  But generally it is the same, they have accounted for your tummy etc in the clothes.  I also recommend reading reviews if you're shopping online.  You might get a sense of if the clothing runs big or small to help you decide if you want to go up a size.

I highly recommend Old Navy (online) and Destination Maternity (have a lot of sales).

  • Sizes are what you wore before....like other posters have mentioned.  I do the best (because I am petite) at Kohls and Penneys online.  Easy returns if need be too.

  • I wear the same size as I did pre-pregnancy. I bought some pants and a couple shirts on clearance at Thyme Maternity (I'm not sure if this store is only in Canada, or if it's in the states too..). I bought some shirts second hand from another mom, 5 for $20. New maternity clothes are expensive! (and I'm cheap...haha!)

I suggest looking on craigslist or something similar to try to buy some stuff used, it'll save you $$$!

I got my pre pregnancy size.

I have some motherhood maternity that are the most comfy but kind of expensive. I love my Gap shirts too and those were very reasonably priced. The Old navy stuff was the least expensive but are also my least favorite clothes.

  • I buy my clothes one size larger since in the 8th and 9th month I swell and get huge. If I hadn't had larger clothes I would have had to go buy more. I would rather have them slightly large in the beginning to make sure they fit later. But this is JMO so I suggest thinking of what you would prefer in all stages.

This. I get a lot of maternity clothes online at Old Navy and on eBay. Because they are worn for such a short period, the maternity clothes that I have found on eBay have been in pretty good condition. I just saved about $20 on a pair of work pants via eBay vs Old Navy.

  • I am shocked at the cost of Maternity clothes, even at Target. I actually found better deals at Gap's website. Kohl's has a limited selection but the prices are decent, I used my Kohl's cash to get pricier slacks because I really need workwear.

  • I picked up some motherhood maternity jeans & a pair of Capris at my salvation army for $5.99 a pair. I LOVE them! And I got then in my pre-pregnancy size.  I'm sure towards the end I'll want the next size but $20 for four pairs of pants I think I can splurge!! As for shirts I caught a sale on Old Navy color block tees ($5.99) and bought several up two sizes from what I would normally buy, I'm really enjoying those as well.  If you go to a thrift store you might check the nicer neighborhoods in your area.  Ours happens to be rather classy; i.e. Prada purses, holister in the teen section, etc.  There wasnt a huge selection but I was happy with the few treasures I've found!

  • I've been finding some great shirts and random pants at my local Goodwill. I have to scour the racks, though, because there is no maternity rack! There are some good looking deals on Ebay, too.

So far, I'm purchasing a small. I'm normally a small. Like a PP said, I think that I'll probably need some medium shirts by the last couple of months.

  • I scored a nice, virtually new pair of Gap maternity jeans on eBay for $15! Glad I looked the because I almost dropped $70 on the same pair new.   It is worth checking local and online resellers ( including Craigslist) if you don't want to spend a ton on a temporary wardrobe.
  • Thanks ladies for all your responses. Definitely going to check out the places suggested.
