Someone posted this on my month board, and I found it interesting. I thought I would share.

So basically at 12 weeks the baby is the size of a plum, and your uterus is the size of a grapefruit. (Obv the "empty" space in the uterus is filled with fluid.)
If you're small/petit/slender I can imagine could be showing slightly at 12 weeks. Especially if you're not very tall and there isn't much room for the uterus/baby to go.
Re: the "am I showing yet" debate
Here's another picture of a uterus at 12 weeks.

I've been "showing" for like 3 weeks now, but really I don't think it's baby, well maybe now, I think it has to do with pregnancy related bloating and gas. However...if I wasn't pregnant I would have those issues. Does showing always have to mean the bulge is baby? or is it just pregnancy related symptoms making you pooch out?
Until I started reading these boards, I assumed it was your body's reaction to pregnancy. So - growth/noticeable change for any reason.
As far as I am concerned, I don't care what it is - bloat, intestines, fat - it is there because there is a baby so I have always figured showing is just that...you look pregnant because someone is shoving all of your organs up
I have always heard "popping" to describe what happens when the bump becomes baby.
This is one of the silliest debates that happens here, I honestly don't care if someone thinks they are showing at 6 weeks. I was so bloated at 9 weeks last time that I remember looking bigger than I did at 16.
In summary, IMHO - showing = appearance altered b/c of baby; popping = baby sticking out
We are so thankful that our second daughter, Lillian Elizabeth "Lily", was born healthy and happy on February 11, 2013. We love her to pieces.
We lost our first daughter, Hannah Grace on May 4, 2011. She was buried on May 14 during a beautiful service at my home church. We are grateful that if she could not be here with us, that she is healed and whole with the Lord. We look forward to the day when we will get to meet her. We love her so much.
My belly fat isn't here because I'm pregnant. I'm just fat.
Missed m/c found @ 10 weeks - May 2010
Missed m/c found @ 10.5 weeks - August 2012
The debate is obnoxious when you have to ask if you're showing. If you have to ask, you aren't. That's my issue.
12 weeks is a little more believable to be showing than, I don't know, 7 weeks. Especially with a second+ pregnancy. I'm sorry, but with a first pregnancy, I'm going to side eye the broad that thinks she's showing at 12 weeks.
I can't get the link to work..
Haha - I meant it is getting shoved up from where it usually is and therefore sticks out more

I've got two plums, each with their own developing placentas and big bags of water... and a couple of PCOS ovaries measuring about the same size as the babies >_<
Been showing a couple of weeks now.
Right ovary removed 09.04.2012 via vertical laparotomy
Essure implant placed on remaining tube 06.13.2013; successful followup scan 09.30.2013
I side eye this whole debate every.single.time. Some people show earlier than others - even in 1st tri and even with their first kid. No, it's not the norm, but it happens. Everyone is different.

I've considered myself showing, but I know it's not baby - I'm not stupid! I have some weight left over from DS to lose as well as pregnancy related gas and bloating. Add that all up, and it looks like I'm showing. It's not the norm for everyone, but this is just my experience so far.
I agree that every pregnancy for every woman is different. No, you're more than likely not showing with your first at 7 weeks. But for women who know their body, I'm sure they've noticed some sort of change in their abdomen area that wouldn't be noticeable for anyone else. So I'm sure, to them, they think they're showing when we would look at them and tell them they're crazy.
But to each their own. If the FTMs want to wear maternity clothes at 9 weeks because they're 'showing', so be it. They'll realize sooner or later how sick they are of maternity clothes when it's all they can fit into!
Here is me early morning at 12 weeks with #1. Side eye all you want but that is for sure a baby bump.
Slender women with short torsos do seem to show earlier. I was definitely showing at 12 weeks with my first pregnancy because we had so many people asking us if I was having a baby.
that sure is! Rock it out mama ;-)

This
My 5ft--100 lb build showed at 12 weeks for #1, 8 weeks for #2 and 7 weeks for #3...of course, I have never lost all the weight (110 lbs)/never returned to tone....
I agree everyone is different & doesn't it really matter...if you have to ask read the other persons non-verbal communication and blow puppies and rainbows up their arse...if that is what they are looking for. Gah, its not that hard.
My attitude tends to be: if your lower belly is bigger first thing in the morning than it was before pregnancy, then SOMETHING is showing. I'm not sure why people get all annoyed at people who say they are showing early. Fact is, your pg and your belly is getting bigger, therefore, the pg is making you "look pg" which is what showing means, right?
I mean, the baby doesn't do above your belly button until after 20 weeks but you can still look pg then. Part of the belly will always be organs, fluid, and bloat so does it matter how much?
I consider my morning bump showing and my afternoon bump hideous bloat, but that's just me!
There is one infamous poster who was most definitely showing at 8/9 weeks, but it was with her 2nd and 3rd.

Me too.
Is it 2nd tri yet?
The funny thing is that was a little more than a year ago so I was worried that with #2 I would show much sooner than I was ready to tell people since my uterus hasn't had much time to recoup. At nearly 9 weeks with #2 I'm still smaller than I was before #1. I love getting comments about how great and toned I look after having a baby and thinking "Little do you know..."
Why does anyone care if someone thinks they are showing? Just so you can be right and they can be wrong?
I agree!
I had ivf and my ovaries were huge, my uterus was enlarged, and my stomach was bloated from meds. I've been "showing" since I was 4 weeks. It obviously wasn't my babies since they were poppy seeds at 4wks. but it was due to being pregnant, so I consider it showing since people noticed my bigger belly. I was in maternity clothes not to be "cute" but because my pants didn't fit and I can't stand Bella bands. Now I'm about 13 weeks and I'm definitely showing since I do have 2 peaches in there. I don't get why people get so pissed about this issue.
