September 2012 Moms

today's OB appt. :/

measuring fine, heartbeat's great.  but my blood pressure is high (for me) at 140/70.  The dr. wasn't too concerned since my urine protein levels are fine, but now I am worried.

Anyone have experience like this?

did they retake your BP at the end of the appointment to see if it had gone down? Were you rushing to get there or anything? You'd be surprised what can make your BP spike.

nope I got a ride there, so no rushing.  And they did recheck me before I left and it was the same...  My normal BP is 110/70

yep thats me, i just try to breathe deep before being seen and not stress. also relax before going to the dr, i know easier said then done.

plus i fear the BP cuff.

  • Mine was 172/96 last Tuesday and my urine was fine.  They had me come back on Friday of last week and it was back to normal.  If the doctor isn't worried, then there is not reason for you to be worried.  That has been my motto for my pregnancy; if you worry about it then your BP will just go up.

Mine was a little high last week too. I'm usually 120/80 on the dot. I think last week was 135ish/90 or something, but they weren't concerned. I think if it's up again next week, they will be.

on a related note- I haven't given urine in a looong time. Do you all do it every appt?

They make me pee at every appointment.

Every single time - even when not pregnant they always ask for a sample.

Yep, me too. Currently sucking down water in preparation for my appt.

Every single appointment....I wake up drinking water and hope that I can go when I get to the office.

  • This happened to me last time. My normal BP is usually 105/70ish...and at my last appointment it was 160/90ish.  She had taken it first thing, so she checked everything else, then took it again and it was 137/85ish. There was no protein so dr isn't too concerned at this point, but still said to make sure I am getting plenty of fluids and keeping cool.

I borrowed my moms BP monitor, and have been checking it a couple times a day.  It has measured normal (around 105) in the morning, but gets a bit higher later in the day. Idk what that means.

  • Mine is usually low - high 90's / 60's - when I take it at home (hubs is borderline high) so I know the cuff works correctly!  I have white coat syndrome so my BP is typically 120/80 at my OB appointments....the last two times it's been 140/85 at first and when they retake it it's back to normal.  I give a urine sample at every appointment and no protein yet....

  • I've been having to go in weekly for BP checks because mine has been borderline. I am normally like 120/60 or so and I've been getting readings of 148/68 or so, but it seems to have corrected itself last week and will hopefully stay that way. If mines a little high they have me lay down for around 15-20 min and then usually get a better reading that they are happy with.

I think a lot of mine is the traffic and other things getting my pressure up... I have about a 35 minute drive to my OB's office and it's through a very congested area which usually makes me stress over if I'll get there on time.

  • Thanks ladies - as always you're beyond helpful!  Turns out we have a BP cuff at home so DH will start monitoring me.

All the more reason for me to telecommute :)
