Feeding schedule

What is your baby's feeding schedule? Are you doing solids once a day or twice? Anyone using water? (I havent done this, but read some start incorporating it.) Are you mixing or sticking to giving one soild rather than combining 2-3?

Re: Feeding schedule

  • DS takes 4 bottles @ approximately 8, 11:30, 4, and 8:30.

We do BLW, and give just a little bit of puree for sleeping reasons.  We were just doing one meal (@ dinner), but I'm going to start having him eat lunch with me too.  He doesn't eat much anyway, so it's not like he's going to over-eat.  Of course if he's sleeping during a meal, I just give it to him when he wakes up.  We started with one solid at a time and went through a few basics, then we just said screw it and gave him whatever.  We don't have food allergies in our family, so I wasn't too concerned.

We're working on the sippy cup.  I have two and am torn between them.  One is a regular cup that's easier for him to drink out of, but he has to learn how to tilt his head back in addition to holding the cup, lifting it, etc.  The other is a straw, which is a more difficult concept for him to figure out how to get the water out.  So I dunno...

  • M is taking four bottles a day (5.5-6oz each) and eating three meals.

Her first bottle is when she wakes up - usually around 6am. She has her breakfast (oatmeal and a fruit) around 8:30. Another bottle around 11am. Lunch at about 1:00 - Lunch is usually fruit or yogurt. Another bottle around 3-3:30. Dinner around 5-5:30 - Barley cereal and a vegetable. Final bottle right before bed between 7 and 7:30. I make her food and each container/serving is 2oz.

M drinks water strictly out of a sippy cup. I don't give her water in the bottle at all. If she has any issues going to the bathroom, I also give her diluted prune juice in her cup as per the pedi.

  • DD takes 5 bottles a day - 6:00, 9:30, 1:00, 4:30, and then around 7:00-7:30 before bed.  We are doing BLW and she gets solids at lunch and dinner.  When we introduce a new veggie or fruit we usually just give her that at first, but if it's stuff she's already had then we offer 1-3 things.  We do offer water in a straw sippy with lunch and dinner as well.

  • Right now we are doing 4 bottles (8, 12, 4, 8) and two meals.  DD has fruit in the morning (around 9) and a vegetable at night (around 5).  Both are served with oatmeal.  Sometimes she eats well, and sometimes it's a struggle and we don't force it.  We've offered a sippy cup with water a couple times, but she hasn't figured it out.  She'll only drink from it if we hold it for her like a bottle.

  • DD has bottles at 4AM, 8AM, noon, 3PM, and 7PM. She eats food three times/day: 2 oz fruit w/2 tbsp rice cereal with the 8AM bottle, 2 oz veggies w/2 tbsp rice cereal with the noon bottle, and 2 oz fruit w/2 oz yogurt + 2 oz veggies w/2 tbsp oatmeal with the 7PM bottle.

ETA: I make the baby food and freeze it in 1 oz cubes, so I typically mix two flavors of fruit or two flavors of veggies together to make 2 oz servings.

  • DD has 5 bottles a day (6-7 Oz ea).

I give her solids once a day between her dinner and night time bottle. She has one bottle 4:30-5:00 pm. Around 6.30 I give her some solids. We are still very new to this so some things she gobbles up and has over an Oz and sometimes she'll just have a spoon full and be done. Then she has her night bottle at 8.00

Doc said I can now start giving her 3 meals a day and just watch and she'll tell me how much formula she still needs. He also said I could give her some water but not more than 1Oz a day as at this age the baby's kindeys can't process water and end up flushing out the salt out of the body which is not good. He said just play with the water for taste purposes but let formula be the main fluid intake....But it's totally ok to add some water to the food if it's too thick.

  • He gets solids once a day around dinnertime. He is learning his sippy cup so I only put water in there. He has bottles about every 3-4 hours during the day; usually about 5 ozs each.

Meg, how often after bottles are you feeding?

My phone won't let me edit. I meant how log after your LO takes a bottle does he eat?

For lunch, about a half hour.  For dinner, it's about an hour and a half.  He does eat more during dinner than lunch.  Occasionally he's taking a cat nap when we're eating dinner and I give it to him a bit later.  He still doesn't eat much yet, and isn't eliminating any formula.  I'm guessing he's going to replace either the 11:30 or 4:00 bottle first?  I don't know how that all works haha
