coconut milk vs WCM

I know there are a couple of babies on coconut milk on this board. I just put Jack on it because he was having problems adjusting to WCM. The pedi suggested using Lactaid milk, but it has a ton of added sugar, so I decided to go this route instead.

I was looking at the back of the milk and noticed that it has 1 gm of protein vs 9 grams in the WCM (DS1

Re: coconut milk vs WCM

  • whoops, I didn't mean to post that yet.

What do you do to make up for the missed protein? Or do you feel like it's a non-issue?

DS is on Coconut Milk also.  He eats protein with lunch and dinner, so I am thinking he is getting enough. However this is a good point that I didn't think of so I will ask his pedi at his one year visit.  Curious to see if this is a concern for other mamas whose LO's are on Coconut Milk.

  • Add an egg per day.  Make sure there's some form of protein (nut butter, meat, tofu) at each meal.  There are proteins in fruits and vegetables.

IMO, it's a non-issue if you know what you're feeding your kid, and the sources of vital nutrients, vitamins, etc.

  • We drink coconut milk, and *personally* I think we are far from having protein issues. We are really good about balancing our meals, and very rarely eat carb heavy meals, instead cooking lots of beans, lean meats, tofu, fish and LOTS of veggies. LO eats everything we eat. I think if your overall diet is healthy, your baby's will be too.
  • We eat healthy, balanced meals. I cook 90% of what we eat and it's usually local or organic.

It looks like its not an issue for anyone. The baby eats what we eat. I really was just to know if it bothered any of you.

I posted this same topic about a week ago, asking the same questions about protein content vs. sugars.  Some people got all mad at me for "overthinking things," so I hope you get the advice you're looking for.  I still struggle with what to serve my daughter.
