H is on the short side, so functionally/space wise it shouldn't be an issue, but OMG. My kid hates the car with the fire of a thousand suns. The blood curdling screams he lets out are too much... we seriously avoid taking him out a lot just so we don't have to hear him scream.
With that said, I've considered switching him at 1 with the hopes that he is a little happier as a passenger.
What do you plan to do?
Re: Do you plan to RF past 1?
There's no way I would personally. My DD will be 2 next week and is still RFing. We will not be switching her or DS any time soon. Even if DS screams bloody murder (which he does about 50% of the time) I would not switch.
Watch some videos on internal decapitation and it may change your mind.
My plan is to keep DS RFing until 2 and DD RFing until 3 and switch them both at the same time. DD is very petite for her age and DS is very big for his age. It only makes sense for us. Maybe your car seat isn't comfortable for him? What do you have?
It was me!
ETA: size.
I know about the recommendations and am still planning to RF but seriously, my kid's screaming gets to me sometimes. Hence my comment - considering switching. Considering, yes. Will I do it? Probably not.
He is in a Britax Boulevard. He just LOVES to scream. Like a Pteradactyl. It's horrible.
Thanks Kagl! That was the one I was thinking of!
Nabum, are you sure front facing will help the screaming? I have a feeling if ds could see me while we were in the car there would be more screaming than usual.
I'll be rear facing until 2.
Those with car screamers, do yourself a favor and get a portable dvd player that attaches to the headrest. It.is.amazing.
With some Yo Gabba Gabba on loop?
You know, there's a distinct possibility it wouldn't help. Sometimes when mH and I are driving somewhere and he hears me it makes him scream harder. Fun times!
I guess I'm just at the end of my chain with the endless screaming.
This is us! E is long and hates the car with a passion and dh complains every time he puts her in the car but she will remain rear facing until she is 2.
That just made me bust up laughing. That goes along with me telling DS that "Mommy is going to live with you forever and you can just tell your wife tough". LOL
Good point! Every new and then when Lily gets fussy in her carseat (she's usually fine for short trips, and sleeps through long ones) I sit in the back to keep her entertained, but that seems to make it worse, not better.
Part of why we bought the convertible seat we got is that it can RF up to 40lbs, rather than 30lbs like most of them. I plan to RF as long as possible.

LOL, I just made a YGG dvd today! Pocoyo is what will instantly calm Amelia down in the car. Hunter prefers Cars or Cars 2, but Amelia will cry as soon as we turn it on (LOL I can't blame her since she has been subjected to it so many times).
Seriously though, I know it sounds terrible to put a screen in front of your baby. It really is magical, because neither kid fusses when we have a dvd on.
I'm not so technical, a mirror on the headrest keeps Li happy.
Yes, we will RF as long as possible.
Judgy confession: Someone I know whose baby is the same age as DS already has their child FF. She told me and I am pretty sure she saw my shocked facial expression because she mentioned that his legs looked so uncomfortable and she feels bad. I didn't say anything other than I will keep DS RF till college ha ha, but it was very hard for me not to!
We'll be rear-facing till 2. I have a feeling we'll hit the age limit before the weight limit since my guy is still in an infant seat.
But I've been there with the screaming. For months and months and months. Hopefully it's a phase H will soon grow out of.
I eye roll your friend too. DS is a little over 31 inches long and I'm sure he will continue to be tall, but he seems just fine in his seat. She changed it just because he "looked uncomfortable"? So I assume that he was otherwise happy rear facing, but she just decided he was uncomfortable and turned him around. You should send her a link to the crash tests, which may seem a little mean, but her ds will be much more "uncomfortable" in a car accident front facing before a year even than he would be with his legs scrunched up a little bit.
I had a similar experience, back in October or November. A friend of ours who had her little girl the previous January (so she was about 10 months old) picked Lily and I up for the four of us to go to the mall. I was shocked when I saw that they had her new convertible seat forward facing. She was a big girl, but not THAT big. I covered up my shock and judgey-ness by just saying that she looked so grown up. I'm still surprised they made the switch that early.

Haha!
DS will be RF until at least 2. He's pretty small, so depending on his size at that point, he may be RFing longer.
I know it's illegal in the states thanks to posts on here, but I couldn't (and still can't) remember the laws for us here in Ontario.
ETA: Just checked our laws. We're required to keep a baby RFing until they reach 9kg (20lbs), that's it. Which their daughter definitely was by then. There are recommendations to continue longer than that (till the reach the limits of the seat or 1+ years), but it's not law. They're about to have another little girl, though, and I may try to bring up the topic sometime in the hopes that they keep the next one RFing longer.

It started as a long road trip thing for us, but then my son started fussing in the car all the time. Then we left it in after our 2nd road trip, and it's still in the car 1.5 years later. We added the second player (ours came as a 2 pack) after Christmas, when Amelia screamed the last 2 hours of our trip. Now plugging the charger cord into the cigarette lighter is the natural step after starting the ignition. Quiet and happy kids = a focused driver.
I believe the law in Ontario is only until they are 20lbs. They should definitely change it though.
Damnit, it's bad enough I have to sneak eat delicious things at home!
But you assumed correctly that it *should* be at least 1 year. I was surprised by it, too. It's especially strange to me because I know that for a lot of other things Canada has much stricter safety regulations. *shrug*

DS loves to talk to the baby in the mirror! I think he'd hate FF because his "friend" would be gone. He's only in the 5% for height and weight, so we will probably be using his infant seat for a few more months.
