XP from Nurseries & Baby Gear: Command Strips to hang wooden letters?

If you've hung those cut-out wooden letters on the nursery walls, did you use Command Strips? It seems like they would be the best thing, but I've never used them before.

  • I posted the same question on there last week. I used the Command double sided tape (following the weight instructions) and they worked out great. The kind that have the pull tab to get them off the wall didn't work for me because of the size of some of my letters.

The only problem with the double sided tape is that it may leave a mark when it comes off the wall.

I have used command strips on a few things and they seem to work great. Not sure I would feel comfortable using them to hold up wood letters over the crib. But anywhere else in the room sounds good.

  • We used them to hang wooden letters in our nursery.  We bought the smaller size because the letters aren't that thick and hung them up in there about two months ago.  They haven't moved the tiniest bit since we hung them.  We positioned them so that they will be over the dresser instead of the crib in case they don't handle the cold weather well after baby is here but I'm extremely satisfied so far. :)

  • Thank you! I'll look at the tab ones and the double sided tape- didn't even know they had different kinds, so I'm glad I asked.

Nothing's going over the crib except a decal. I wouldn't trust it. I got my letters from eBay and they're actually really good quality. They're thicker than I expected them to be.

  • We tried the command strips and the letters fell off instantly, they stuck to the wall great, but not to the letters. I would not recommend them to hang above crib.

I ended up getting a piece of wood the height of the letters and the length of the letters all together and painting it with the same paint as the wall. I attached the letters to the board with wood glue and attached picture brackets to the board to hang. It turned our great and made me feel better safety wise.

Another idea I've seen is to attach ribbon to letters and hang from nail that way.

  • I wouldn't over the crib. DS has 3 pics up using them & 2 keep falling down! I even added extra strips for more support & I think b/c it gets pretty warm in his room during the day, the heat affects the hold-ability. (He has a window unit a/c that we keep off during the day).

  • For those that it didn't work for, are your walls textured, painted with a semi gloss, or not drywall at all? I have never had them not work on regular drywall.

I agree though, originally I was going to hang my letters over the crib, but I got panicky and they are on an empty wall. I love the results.
