MIL has picked Noni(it's Italian I believe) and FIL picked PopPop.
My grandmother will be called GamGam and my mom will be called Nana I think. I don't speak with my father so we don't have to come up with anything for him.
My mom wants to be called mimi, and SD calls FIL papa, MIL is not in the picture. personally, whatever my LO wants to call them is fine with me, I dont have anything picked out, although we will probably stick with papa for FIL, just because its what we are used to. but for my dad and mom Im not going to call them anything but grandma and grandpa, and whatever he calls them will be fine with me.

Granny and Papa - my parents (dad wanted grandpa but ds was speech delayed and never switched). Nana and Granddad - ils (MIL wanted something else but ds never switched - granddad was orginally pa - but eventually switched)
My nephew started calling my dad "Papa Ne" his name is Randy, and my stepmom and mom are both Grandma followed by their first name. My FIL is Grandpa and MIL is Grandma Last Name.
Personally I would like to just stick with Grandma/Grandpa because that's what we used as kids and they seem to do the job just fine. My mother in law is insistent that she not be called "Grandma" "Granny" Nana" or anything that makes her sound like a grandma and is desperately trying to come up with a "cool" name for herself but she's come up with stuff like "Foxy" and "Bunny" and all kinds of other weirdness. I've already told my husband, she can choose whatever silly name she wants, but the kid will call her what the kid will call her and that will be that! We certainly aren't going to force our daughter to call her Grandmother "Foxy".
..... We certainly aren't going to force our daughter to call her Grandmother "Foxy".
Haha this is hilarious! This is exactly like my mom, she just doesnt want to be called grandma, she thinks it makes her sound too old. Im just glad she came up with mimi and not foxy haha

My MIL refuses to be acknowledged as grandma or anything along those lines so she picked Mimi and likewise dictated that FIL be Papa. My mom wants to me Gamma. My dad just wants to be Grandpa, nothing cutesy. DD is just starting to talk and has definitely NOT mastered all those names yet.
Currently going through our second deployment. Can't wait for Zoe to meet her daddy!
My parents will be Meemy and Grandpaps (I call my dad Paps). My FIL and SMIL will be grandma and grandpa. My MIL keeps referring to herself as "Nana Barbi" (her first name) and SFIL as "Papa Steve." I cannot explain in words how much I truly hate that! There's just something about it that bothers the hell out of me. We'll probably just refer to them as Nana and Steve(??) Not sure about that one. They live across the country and we don't see them too often, so who knows. My grandparents are going to be Nana and Papa, so we'll just have to see what happens.
My mom wants to be called Nana and my dad wants to be called Grandpa. This has been a MAJOR discussion point since we announced that I'm pregnant. It's been kinda funny actually. We translated Grandma and Grandpa into every language we could think of trying to come up with something they could both agree on. It was quite an amusing exercise and solved nothing.
MIL will be Grandma, she already has 30+ other grandkids, we're not changing that now.
Aren't nicknames something that just kind of comes out of what the kid can actually say first? I had a great great grandma that was GiGi and great grandparents that were Mo & Po. All my grand parents were Grandma/Grandpa so-&-so...
My grandma just started calling herself Gigi (in reference to becoming a great grandma) and it kind of weirded me out that she gave herself a nickname... IMO.

MIL and FIL are grandma and pappy (my husband called his grandpa this, it's a family thing I have never hear before). My mom likes to be called Nana. I reference my dad as grandpa to DD but she doesn't see him very often.
I give a serious side eye to women who fuss about this. Having a grandchild and freaking out because you're not wanting to feel "old" is equivalent to a grandma wearing a mini skirt. I just want to tell them "knock it off!" Ugh.
My mom and Dad go by Nana and PeePaw, it was the only names left when my brother's SD joined our family and she was little and they didn't want to confuse her by using the same names as her other 2 sets of grandparents, it has stuck with both of my brother's sons who followed after her.
DH's parents will just be grandma and grandpa until baby decides to call them something else, my husbands grandparents are call garden grandma and grandpa by the grandkids and his nephew their great grandson calls them pipe maw-maw and pawpaw

My MIL picked Yaya when my first niece was born. My second niece started calling FIL Pepaw and that stuck.
My DD was the first grandchild for my parents and they said Grandma and Grandpa were just fine. She called my mom Memaw and my dad pampaw so that is who they are now.
We named my grandmother Gigi and my grandfather was grandpa duke or to her pampaw duke.

Thanks everyone for the ideas. MIL and her SO have names already set, but my mother is excited about the names since it is my mother and father's first grandchild. She doesn't live near me and I think it's her way of staying connected. I think its cute to see what the kids come up with, but until then...they have to be called something.

My mom is Nonna because it rhymes with Donna (her name) and IL have stolen it for their MIL who is also named Donna lol and my Dad is Papa he wanted to just be Grandpa but we kept saying Papa and my niece picked it up. My grandma is Bop because she started calling herself that with my niece and calls my niece BeBop (when your 90 you can do whatever you want) my DH is just Grandpa to his grandson but he's only 1 so who knows what he'll come up with when he talks more. My friend calls their grandma Monty her real name is ILa Grace and no one knows where that name comes from lol
My husband has divorced/remarried parents so for his dad & stepmom - Poppy & Nana; for his mom & stepfather - Grammie & Grandpa. My parents are not in the picture, but for my gram (her great gram) we call her Super G (after the ski race and because her name would have triple Gs). My great grandparents (her great-greats) were Babci & Dziadzia.
Funny part is people can pick names all they want, but a kid is gonna call them what a kid is gonna call them!
My mom is Nonnie (right along the lines of Nonna, Noni... it is an Italian word), my dad is PopPop or Papa, whichever she feels like saying at the time.
My in-laws wanted to be called Gammy and Gampy (how obnoxious is that), but we only see them like once every two years or so and they really have nothing to do with DD's life. I don't expect that to change when DS arrives. We did just see them at a wedding. DD called FIL PopPop and never addressed my MIL.
We are lucky that my grandparents are alive. DD calls my grandmother Great Nonnie and my grandfather Great PopPop/ Old PopPop/ Brown PopPop (he is a olive skinned italian). She is pretty funny with the names.
She calls one of my brothers, whose name is James, Jeeves. This started when she was little and everyone loves it. Poor Jeeves.
She calls my Uncle Don (her great uncle), Diamond Don and that got shortened to just Diamond. My Aunt Shell became Shellmo (like Elmo.)
But then again, we are a family of nicknames.

I called my grandparents Mawmaw and Pawpaw and Grandmom and Granddad
My MIL hates grandma and wants to be called Momma Carri, which is fine with me. My mom called her grandma Momma Lucy, my SIL's hate it. But I'll score some serious MIL points by letting my kids call her Momma Carri.
My mom likes grandmom and my dad will be Big Pop. which is what he called his granddad. He had a Big Pop and a Little Pop. (Juries still out on if we'll call FIL little pop He might not like it so we'll see)
Although I could see my mom as a Nana. She's not picky.
My parents are simple and old school and they're going with Grandma and Grandpa. ILs already have 5 grandkids, so they are already established as Grandma and Grandpa firstname.
As a joke, my siblings and I sometimes call my dad, "Sparky" or "Sparkplug" and there have been plenty of jokes about calling him "GrandSparkplug." It sounds stupid, but we think its hilarious.

I'm Italian so my mom will be Nonna, my stepfather Nonno M... (his first name), my dad isn't in the picture so wtv.
Everyone calls my MIL Mimi so I'm guessing that's what LO will call her also.
