bf'ing mom's....AF ?

Hi there! I'm not a frequent poster but I do pop in now and the but I have a question for those of you who are nursing. Is it common to get AF once and then not again for a while? Of course I'm asking b/c I did get it in June and not since.

I'm trying not to freak out and I'm not ready to poas just yet so I figured I'd ask if any of you ladies have experienced this. I'm 99% sure I'm just not back on a regular cycle yet but that 1% has been hanging over my head for a few day...

I haven't seen AF yet. I don't think it's uncommon to have very irregular cycles for awhile though.

Ive seen AF twice. The AF visits were 25 days apart... that's a little earlier than my normal 28-29 day cycles... I'm hoping they lengthen back out again.

I think this falls into the category of everyone is different. Some people get no AF until they wean, others get it back right away, some people have irregular cycles. Irregular could be "normal" for you while BF-ing. Other things like the mini-pill or other bc methods could affect your cycle as well.

That said, with DD1 I got my period back at 4 months pp, and it was very regular. However my supply took a dive after returning to work and I stopped bf-ing at 6 months. This time around I still have not gotten an AF. I have already taken one test for piece of mind, and I have an IUD.

I have been worried too. I BF but I supplement formula 4x's a day due to low supply. I still have not seen AF. I expected that when I started supplementing at 5 weeks I would have AF return, but nope. Now I have started the mini pill. Next week will be week 4 so I am interested in what the results will be. I wish you luck and my fingers will be crossed for you that this is just your new normal :-)

For me, I got AF a couple weeks after pp bleeding stopped, then I had the Mirena placed, had one light period and haven't had anything since. Sorry I'm not much help, but I think it's normal to be irregular while BFing. Cycles can be a bit odd for a bit after a baby since your hormones are working on going back to normal. If I didn't get the Mirena I'm sure I would have still gotten my periods and they probably would be irregular as well.

Same as you - got in once and not since. It was while I was EBF. I just started formula 3x/day and will see when it comes. I'm like you - that 1% is in my head but I really don't wanna take a test.

Thanks for sharing your experiences! I agree that it's different for everyone so I know I can't base myself off of any one answer. In fact after each baby (this is #3) AF returned at a different time.

I know I can just poas to get my answer but I'm gonna wait it out a bit longer and hope for a visit from an old friend VERY soon, but either way I'll be okay and most definitely looking into some BC options immediately!

My first pp cycle started at 7 weeks and lasted 42 days. I have never had long cycles before.

I got AF right when DS was 2 months old but my cycle was 45 days long instead of my regular 28 days. I took a test just to make sure I wasn't pregnant again

I posted about this a while back. I have the same situation as OP. I had, what I thought was AF in June. Hasn't come back yet either. I did take a test and it was negative.
