ET finished....slim chances

our ET was Saturday and as I was told the follicle fertilized but failed to split......my RE decided to transfer it anyways. I have a million questions to all of you that have "been here before". I'll try not to ramble on like I always do, sorry!

Although I know that there is basically a .00001 chance the follicle will do any thing but the DH is keeping a positive attitude which grrrr.......I guess it is nice. Anywho, I had 6 six follies before ER and then during the ER they were MIA and the RE could only find 1 by chance. After our ET he was discussing possible surgery to sew the ovaries down to the side of the ute since they are currently in a horrible place for retrieval. Has anyone ever had this done?? I guess my concern is at what point is intervention futile? Im 42 and even with better placed ovaries I still have 42 year old follicles?

The IVF itself......the RE was extremely painful.....pain like Ive never felt before.....is it normal to have the ER a painful experience? It was three days before I could even stand up straight. And what is with this bloating of the abdomen?  Is it from the horrible foaming ute tablets?????

Re: ET finished....slim chances

  • I'm unclear on a few things...  What day did he transfer the embryo?  It doesn't sound like it was day 3 or 5?  If it never divided at all, why would it have been transferred?

I would RUN from the idea of the surgery, and get a 2nd opinion.  I have also never heard of that surgery.  Did ur RE just leave all of the other follies in there?  Bc that would explain ur bloat.  U shouldn't  be walking around with a bunch of big mature follies...it's like u never even had an ER.

What pain are u referring to?  Were u under for the ER?  It's should be painless, with some discomfort afterwards.  I have always been up and around 1 day after.

What foaming ute tablet are u talking about, ive never heard of this either.

Good luck, hoping ur still in the race.

  • Vanessa...yup there are a lot of questions. I trust the RE but I really do doubt a lot of things that have happened.

I did a day 3 transfer and they put the embryo in on a chance it would begin to divide after......yup. I think it was more or less because He feels like He failed and should do something after all that.

The surgery is because of the endo..it has pulled the ovaries to the back of the ute. During the ER I was supposed to but sedated.....I think because it hurt so much I could not relax. The ER is supposed to be through the vaginal wall , right? I guess He tried to extract though the ute wall. hence the pain.

The progresterone tablets are efforvesent!!!!! Slightly bubbling!!!

Sorry for your experience. I'm not sure why your RE would have you go through ET with an embryo that didn't divide. I would definitely recommend a second opinion!! good luck. I hope you get some answers.

  • This all sounds very strange. Where are you being treated? Are you in the US? This does not sound normal.   An embryo that was 1 cell on day 3 will not start dividing.  I had this happen with IVF#3 and we did not transfer it since it was a waste of time.

I'm not sure what type of progesterone you are on. I've never had a bubbling type.

  • Sorry things are not going well.  {{hugs}}

Before I'd agree to another surgery, especially since you just had one in Dec, (same doctor?)  I would have a consult with a Endo specialist.  Endo can be done by exicison or caulterzation.  An endo specialist uses exicision and it removes the diesese by the root.  Cauterization just burns the top surface.  Endo can return very quickly if it's not removed correctly.  PM if you need help locating a Endo specialist.  If this is old news, I apologize for being on a soapbox.

I had surgery back in March to remove endo and to unstick my left ovary and tube from the backside of my uterus.  This is the second surgery to unglue the ovary (two different surgeons and neither ever recommended sewing the ovary to a better location.  Just sounds odd.

Have you mentioned to your RE about your extreme discomfort and bloating?  That doesn't sound normal for someone unlikely to have OHSS.  Maybe the endo is causing the bloating and pain?  Stims meds and high estrogen levels can cause endo to go on a rampage.

Hope you are feeling better soon.
