still exercising???

Hi Ladies,

I am due in 5 1/2 weeks (Sept 8th) and I am still lightly exercising (preg dvds and elliptical). Anyone else this far along still doing this? Are you dr.'s still saying its ok? Just want to make sure I am not being crazy here, by no means am I going nuts when I work out but it does feel good to still keep moving.

Re: still exercising???

  • The most I'm doing is some stretches in my little blow up pool Stick out tongue It does feel really good though to be able to move and stretch out!

  • Of course it's still okay.  Your doctor would let you know if it wasn't okay in your case, but for a healthy pregnancy, there should be no reason to stop light workouts.

I'm still trying but it isn't happening much.  I end up in more pain than it's worth.  Sad

  • I have farther to go than you since I'm due at the end of Sept, but I'm still doing some weights and cardio on the eliptical or treadmil. I think as long as you feel fine while and after doing it, exercising is great for you and the baby!

  • I still do light weights and stretching at the gym 2 days a week. I've been trying to do the elliptical still, but I'm lucky if I get in 30 mins those same two days when I'm at the gym. I really really want to start prenatal yoga this week as I've had every excuse not to get there for the past few months. I need to exercise still or my anxiety levels would be through the roof. Exercise is the only thing that helps me feel better in that respect.

  • I'm doing water aerobics 1-2 times a weeks and walks a few days a week.   Both are low impact and I'm planning on doing them as long as possible, hopefully to the end.

  • I'm due September 21st, but the doctor thinks I have about 5 weeks left.  I'm still teaching 4-6 Zumba classes a week!
  • I still am power walking quite a few days and take Body Pump twice a week at the gym.  My doctor told me to keep up the activity as much as I can and I'm due September 6.  If I go a few days without working out, I swell up like a balloon.  I think you're fine!

  • I exercised like you are late in the game with DS. My doc was fine with it (actually encouraged it). This time, I'm pretty lazy. I walk sometimes, and I'm going to prenatal yoga tonight, but I haven't been inside an actual gym in months. I think if you feel good, go for it.

Still. Haha like I was exercising to begin with?

  • I'm still going to the gym, but have defintely slowed down. I still do the stairmaster and elliptical, plus some weights and planks. Yesterday, I did the elliptical for 30 min no problem, but started to get a little hungry, so when I go on the row machine, I got light headed. I stopped and got a little snack from the food bar, but then took it easy on a stationary bike after that. I'm going back to prenatal yoga this week though! I think staying active has really helped me with swelling, achy hips/back, etc.
  • I am just behind you due Sept 9th and I am still Boot Camping a few times a week. It kicks my butt, but I love it and only have to modify a handful of exercises. My OB loves that I am still working out and told me to keep it up as long as I can.

  • I am due later in Sept (22nd) but I am still trying to keep up on the work outs.  I had to give up Body Combat last week, but I am still walking 2x and doing yoga 2x a week.  I really reduced the amount I am lifting, but still lift a few times a week as well!  I actually feel worse on the days I don't do anything!

  • I'm also due the end of sept, so I'm a few weeks behind you but I am still pretty active.  I do an exercise class once a week at my gym, a yoga class once a week and am chasing around a 2.5 year old on a daily basis.  I haven't specifically brought up with I'm doing with my doctor, but I've had a completely complication free pregnancy and was told in the beginning I could continue to do anything I was doing pre-pregnancy as long as I listened to my body and took a break if I needed to.

  • I am still working out but I can definitely tell I'm getting slower at it LOL! I still do body pump a few days a week, body combat, sports attack and spin. I would go nuts if I couldn't workout :)  I went to my DH Crossfit gym on Saturday and the coaches were calling me super woman LOL.......they were all so supportive to have a pregnant chick there and we didn't come in last which I was pretty stoked about :)
  • I am still doing my normal exercise routine. I do Pilates 3x per week, and yoga 1x per week. Definitely struggle to do some of the exercises, but hanging in there. Not sure if I will have the energy to keep it up once I return to teaching in 3 weeks.

  • I am due sept 27 but still going to gym, weight lifting, walking and I'm getting ready right now to go to my kickboxing/MMA class. I plan on doing this all right up to my due date and MW encouraging it.

  • I'm still walking just about every day.  I've slowed down a lot, but I'm happy with myself for getting out there every day and walking!

  • I have 8 weeks left, but am doing light weights with a good treadmill (walking with steady incline) workout.  I gained a ton of weight in the last couple of months with DD, and this PG I have already hit the "magic number" in my mind, so I discussed it with my doctor and she said absolutely fine, in fact I should be exercising 5 times a week for 30 mins.

  • I'm still teaching Turbo Kick 4-5 times a week along with boot camp once a week.  I'm hoping to keep it up for at least 3 more weeks but it's starting to become more difficult.

  • I am due a little after you, but I am still working out 4 times a week. Just elliptical and power walking (2016 Olympics here I come)- but I am so glad I've stayed active. I had to stop running a while ago because it started getting awkward.  My sisters that have remained active while pregnant swear it made labor and recovery easier and so far I think it has helped keep away swelling. I will say that I have to take a nap at some point after I finish though!

My Doctor says its great that I am staying active, but to keep hydrated.

  • Wow some of you ladies are REALLY kicking butt! Those teaching classes still especially! You guys definitely make me good about working out and make me motivated to keep going and as lots of you pointed out I think it is making this overall pregnancy much easier, I dont feel as sore and uncomfortable as many friends have commented they are. Thanks for all the comments, I am off to the gym now! =)
  • My Dr. said if it hurts stop and if it feels good keep doing it!

  • You're a couple weeks ahead of me but I am still swimming, walking, lifting weights, and doing yoga.  I plan to continue this up until the end.  Keep up the good work.  Not sure if this is true or not but I've heard from a few people that women who exercise the whole pregnancy have easier deliveries and a faster recovery period.

  • There's nothing wrong with it. It's good for you as long as you're giving yourself  a break when you feel you need it. I'm still painting my house and patching damaged drywall and ceilings and my MW is ok with it as long as I'm listening to my body.

  • I am swimming (although about 30 minutes at a time, and slowly, and to be honest, unattractively) a few times a week, and doing prenatal yoga a few times a week. The swimming is actually very helpful for me in the summer heat and help me to feel less like a hippo.

  • I am still running 2-3 miles 4-5 mornings a week. I feel lousy if I miss a day and doctor is a runner and all for it. I hope to keep going until the end.
