Greensburg area Midwives or natural birth friendly OB/GYNs?

hey All-

I know this topic comes up a lot, but I'm BRAND NEW to the area and my husband and I are beginning TTC in September/October and I would like to find a midwife or natural birth friendly OB in the Greensburg, Mt. Pleasant, Connellsville area... I know SW PA has a real shortage of Home birth midwives, and I'd like to find a provider that feels like a decent compromise.

Thanks!

Becca

I may be incorrect but I don't believe home births are permitted in PA which is why that is.  Well, they are but there is a legality issue with CPM's being legal in PA and they can be charge with a misdemeanor if caught doing a home birth.  Google it, there is lots of information out there on it.

As for midwives there aren't many around SWPA, you may want to look into Pittsburgh where there are the Midwives at Magee and The Midwife Center.

There is a group of midwives that used to work out of Jeanette Hospital. They now work out of Westmoreland. I personally go to Dr.Maria Bruno who is located in Irwin, she is very old fashioned in terms of medicating, sonograms, etc.... She has a reputation for not always having the best bedside manner( some feel she is too rude during l&d). But she will honestly tell you if you are coming to see her pre child, she better deliver your children as well. Her office staff are wonderful and always will try to find an answer for you and never laugh at your questions no matter how goofy they may seem! They even answered Faith's questions (she was 3 during my pregnancy withRob)!!

I recommend Vivian Boyer at Conemaugh Memorial Hospital (Johnstown) as a very good midwife.  I've been treated with her during this pregnancy and I know several friends whose babies she delivered that can't recommend her enough.  My OB is Dr. Lauren Trimeloni and she has offices in Ligonier and Johnstown and she is pro natural birth as well as breastfeeding (all of Conemaugh is very supportive re: BFing)  Dr. Trimeloni delivered my first son and I've used both she and Vivian during this pregnancy.  It's a little further away then you were looking, but I wanted to give you the option!

East End ObyGyn is a great group that is very open to natural births.  There are a few doctors in the group that are more conservative/traditional, but they will respect your birth plan and only advise against it when there is a safety issue.  They deliver at Forbes in Monroeville and the nursing staff there is awesome, which is what really counts the day of delivery, etc.  They are huge proponents of breastfeeding, rooming in, skin to skin contact etc.  East End has offices in Irwin, White Oak and Monroeville.
