xp: ergo vs. wrap carrier for an infant

I'm sure this has been asked before, so sorry for the repeat, but I get an error when I try to search on TB.
I'm wondering how practical the ergo is for carrying an infant around the house. I am a small person and looking at all the padding of the ergo, plus the infant carrier insert, it seems pretty bulky. I'm worried it would look/feel cumbersome on me. I get that it's nice for outings, but is it that comfortable hanging out around the house?
Also, even with the infant insert, is the ergo carrier that comfy for newborns? The wraps look so much more snuggly for infants. In favor of the ergo, though, it seems much easier/quicker to put on and seems like you would get more use out of it over a longer period of time as baby grows bigger. So I'm at a loss...would rather not spend money on both.
For those with experience, what do you think? TIA!

I would definitely recommend a stretchy wrap for a newborn. It's more comfortable for baby and for you. Not to mention you can pick them up pretty inexpensively or even DIY.
Soft-structured carriers like the Ergo are great for when baby is a little bigger because it's more comfortable for you when they start to get heavier.
It's definitely possible to use an Ergo with a newborn, I just don't think it's ideal. I got a lot of use out of my Moby during DS's first year so I think it's worth it to get one because it's the better option at first.

Yeah, that. I loved my Moby for the first year (a bit longer), and about the time I started looking at an Ergo because DD was getting bigger she decided that she could walk and didn't want to be carried anymore. Plus that was about the age she could ride in just an umbrella stroller and she preferred that over being carried as soon as she could walk. I think it was an independence thing.

Moby type wrap was great for us up to 4-6 months (DS got big quick) and then once he had good head control we were using the Ergo a lot.
If you're worried about cost look for used carriers. You can also make a Moby type wrap out of a length of semi stretchy fabric.
PS. Ergo keeps on giving. DS is 32 pounds and almost 3 and we still use it on occasion. Going to Olympics this week and skipping the stroller and just bringing the Ergo for when he gets tired.
I will say that some of it depends on the baby too. I wanted the Moby to work so badly and my son wanted NOTHING to do with it. I still have it and will try again for #2. But I also have an Ergo now and will try it with the infant insert next time.
The Ergo was the only thing my son would let me baby-wear him in and that was around 4 months old (at which point he still hated the Moby).
In general, I agree with PPs, the wraps are going to be more snuggly and conform to both you and your newborn better . . . we just had no luck with them.

My son was colicky & lived in it! Great for around the house & outings!
When he was small i just kept him w/ knees tucked in (fetal position) & never used the insert. (it was too hot). I'm tall, so it was great on my back/shoulders!
