I am a total nerd for the summer games...

I kicked off the festivities on Friday night with an opening ceremony viewing party complete with Olympic decor and English pub fare. Thoughts on the ceremony?

My favs: the background of Lolo Jones, the infectious smile of Missy Franklin, and that body on Lockte has me begging for more! Where are my Olympic IFV nerds?!

I dvr'ed the opening ceremonies bc I was out. I ended up fast forwarding thru most of it when I got home. I thought it was pretty awful

I agree that you just have to love Missy Franklin and the bods on the swimmers are hard not to oggle at

I am heartbroken for Jordyn Wieber... It's ridiculous that she was fourth overall and doesn't get to compete in the all around bc of the stupid two from each country rule. It should be the top 24 gymnasta period.

I would def have to agree on the ceremony bit. What the heck? It was odd! The sick kids on hospital beds and that giant baby? I understand they were trying to show the history of the country, but I could have done without the healthcare bit.

And, I also second the JW disappointment. I can't imagine the frustration!

Being an Aussie, I am a huge Olympic fan. My dad missed out by 1 vote on carrying the torch in the 1956 Melbourne games.

The opening ceremony, for what I saw was awful. Who cares about the NHS and their socialized medical system. The history of England, they had to avoid IMO as it would have been full of brazen Kings and 2 very distinct class groups, an invasionby the Romans and death and disease for centuries. I am not being hard on the Brits but younger countries like Australia and the US have a history of overcoming boundaries, finding their own feet in a free country and hope and rewards. I think that they were wise to avoid some of the English history. If they did a real retrospective of the brilliant music and bands to come from the UK then it would have been on cool party!!!

Yes! They really could have done something fantastic with the history of UK music. They touched on it, but they should have done more with it. And, how about that 007 Queen bit? Not necessary, at all. Overall, it was "unique" to the Brits and I don't want to slam them, but I guess I expected something different.

I was the ultimate armchair critic last night watching the synchronized diving. I should be ashamed! ..."Did you see that? A slight splash at contact to water! That should be a point deduction!" Haha. I am terrible!

I am pretty gung ho about the gymnastics, but I'm not sure about the Olympics overall.... I stop caring once that's over with. I am so pissed for Jordan! I know here coach... at Region 5 clinics her coach and my coach were the Bar coaches. I know that man!!! He's a fantastic coach and I wish he could be out on the floor

I believe it when you say he is a fantastic coach...she is one amazing athlete and he had a big part in that!
