(sorry it's huge)
Thursday night I had some bloody discharge after doing squats while combatting restless leg syndrome at 11PM. It continued until the next morning and stopped on its own. I called my dr and ended up going to my regularly scheduled appointment at 430. She checked me and said I was a "tight 2" but the baby was really low-- -1 to 0 station. I was going to ask her to strip me but didn't, as she wasn't going to be on call until next week. She said, "Don't do anything between now and Wednesday" (my next appointment) in the hopes that she would be the one to help deliver this baby.
That night MH was going out for a guys' night. I asked my sister to stay over, because even though there was nothing happening I wanted her there just in case. We hung out, watched some TV and went to bed around 11. At midnight I woke up to a small gush of fluid. I thought, well that's weird, and got out of bed. As I went upstairs to the bathroom I had 2 more gushes and confirmed on the toilet that it was my water. My water had never broken before labor started before so I was a little stunned and not sure what to do. I decided to wait before I called the dr, since I wasn't having any contractions. I called MH, told him to come home, and contrax started shortly afterward. They weren't very strong or very long, and I called the on call around 1. We decided to go in to the hospital because they have a lengthy paperwork process and I didn't want to do it in hard labor.
We got to the hospital around 2AM. Contractions were 3 mins apart and 45 seconds long. The dr on call checked me at 230 and I was a 4 and 70% effaced. I bounced on the ball, listened to music and played on my phone while DH tried to sleep.
Around 530AM, contractions had been intense, coming every 2 mins and lasting a minute each. I was sure I was starting in transition as I was starting to feel nauseous and shaky during the contractions, and getting the "I can't do this" emotional signpost. The dr came to check me and said I was only a 5 and 90%. I was trying to go med-free and the news that I was only a 5 crushed me. I considered getting an epi. Contractions got stronger and I mentally went between having to wait through a bag of fluid to get the epi to trying to relax between contractions. DH started rubbing my lower back while I moaned through the contractions. During one contraction I found myself grunt-pushing at the end involuntarily. I thought, that was weird, and the next contraction threw me into full pushing mode. It was the strangest feeling-- I was pushing really hard and couldn't control it at all. I yelled for DH to get the nurse and by the time she came back the baby was already near crowning. I was barely on my side and couldn't stop pushing. The nurses rushed in (it was shift change) and were trying to get me to stop but I just couldn't. DS was out in a contraction or two. The dr didn't have time to get there and the nurses barely had time to get the room set up.
I had a few "areas" of water-- a small forebag broke at home, then a larger bag broke in the hospital, then a third was over DS's head so he was born with the membranes over his head. He came out so quickly that he literally tumbled out onto the bed, flipping out of the cord that was wrapped around his neck. As a result of his quick birth, he was having trouble keeping his oxygen levels up and wasn't crying. He had a lot of fluid and mucous in his mouth and lungs. He had to go to the nursery for an hour and a half or so but the pedi deemed him perfect
DS2 was born at 639AM (yes, an hour after I was checked and told to be a 5 and 6.5 hours after my water broke), 20" long, and 8lbs 3oz. I had a super small tear but wasn't stitched and I've felt really good. No major soreness (surprising considering how quickly he came out) and he's getting the hang of nursing.
After having 2 births with epidurals and then going med-free with this one, I can say that I'd rather have the drugs If my labor had gone much longer I would have gotten the drugs!
Re: Team Green turned Team BLUE! (LONG) Birth story and PIP
Love your story! I tend to deliver quickly too. Both my girls were born with epidurals and I am considering trying to do this one without - just to see what it's like...lol. Thanks for the encouragement!
Hope BFing continues to go well! I always think that part is harder than labor and delivery...
Congrats! He looks precious.
Oh my goodness! What a birth story! Congrats on the baby and being team blue!! How did it feel when they said "its a boy!"?
On a side note, there's a whole lot of waters breaking on this board for it not being so common...

SAM he is absolutely adorable, and major props to you for going med-free (though it sounds like you didn't have much choice with the quickness of your labor)!!! What an incredibly fast labor/delivery!
And TEAM BLUE

Aw I'm sorry!! It might have been different if I didn't go into transition so quickly after being disappointed
I have to say, though, day after I feel really good. I'm barely sore and the bleeding is almost nonexistant. MH even commented on how amazing I look
Congratulations!
