Anyone in upstate sc?

Im relocating from Mass and trying to get rid of a lot of stuff... How cold are winters? I have an electric heated mattress pad? Will I need it? I usually heat our bed up before we get in it up here during the winter but Im thinking it wont consistently be that cold down there?

  • I grew up in charleston and no - I never even heard of one of those growing up. I would say, the worst of the "typical" winter gets in the 20's??? Sure there are some cold days but nothing like Mass. You may want to go to weather.com and looks at the average temps for where you are for that time of year

  • I'm in WNC (just above SC state line from Greenville and Spartanburg).  It gets cold here and we have an electric mattress pad, but I'm not sure you will use it in upstate SC.  It's usually a good 10 degrees warmer there than in the mountains of NC.  We'll get snow a couple times a year, but SC usually doesn't get it.  As PP said, probably upper 20s/lower 30s is as cold as you will typically see.

  • We just moved from upstate SC (Clemson area) back to MA! You won't need your electric blanket. It gets cold, but low 30s cold, not single digits. We lived in an old house with not great insulation and I may have wanted the blanket once in three winters.

Enjoy SC! It's so different from MA but I really enjoyed living there.

  • My inlaws live outside of Greenville and you might need an extra blanket once in a while, but I don't think you need the electric pad.  Im from NJ and never used one though :)

  • I'm from the Anderson/Greenville area.

Winters are fairly mild here. I think someone else already said this, but you won't need the electric heating pad down here.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions about the area!
