Hi ladies! For any of you who have PCOS and are on metformin for the first tri, are you following any specific diet? The reason I ask is, I was on South Beach Diet and metformin for about a month when I got pregnant. It was the first time I had actually ovulated since going off my BCP. My RE had explained to me (before I got pregnant) that metformin helps regulate sugar sensitivity, thus helping to regulate male hormones in women with PCOS. Of course her explanation was muh more detailed, but that was the general idea. Anyway, she then went on to explain that she wanted me to continue the met until I was 12 weeks gestation to help regulate the male hormone and decrease risk of miscarriage. So, I sorta took this to mean that I should still watch my sugars and carbs for the same principle as taking the met. I am having strong aversions to salads and proteins, though. Just wanted to see if you all thought it would be safe to eat more carbs and sugars or if I should still limit them. I hope this made sense, I feel I was kind of rambling! Thanks so much for your input!

Re: Question for PCOSers
I'm not on medications (my PCOS has been mild and manageable after two years of diet maintenance), and I continue to limit all of the empty (i.e. sugar & starch) carbs to under a hundred grams a day whenever possible. Majority of my carbohydrates are still coming from greens n dairy like they did pre-pregnancy. I have a few more breads here and there, but they're low sugar high fiber breads. I'm indulging for cravings on sweets a maximum of once a week right now, and even doing that I've had bad acne flare ups
If I feel even the slightest pain on one side near where my ovaries should be I freak out a bit because I had a cyst burst during my last pregnancy in month 4... pain was worse than the labor its self. Ovaries measured 11cm and 12cm each.
So, I can't say one way or another if the meds make a big difference in the diet since I haven't been on them.... but I'm going to continue to treat unnecessary carbs like the devil lmfao

Same here. I still try to eat smart, but sometimes it's a matter of eating bad or not eating. I've been off for a couple weeks now and seem fine. I have been doing acupuncture for the last nine months, I hadn't o'ed before I started the acu even though I was on met for about nine months prior. So, I'm continuing the acu, although treatments have changed a bit since the bfp.
This!
