2 weeks later, still having intensly painful contractions, NOT dilated...

This is getting silly... am I the only one?  Up at night with painful contractions and menstrual type pain, contractions every 2-10 minutes (depending on activity, not getting closer I don't think), and quite painful where I feel as though I might be sick.  L& D won't see me until I can't stand the pain anymore (they're trying to give me morphine for the last 2 weeks), and/or my water breaks/bloody show.  I am not dilated, barely effaced.  Normal?  Not?  Its been one night short of 2 weeks of this now.... just want baby out, a little dilation, something, to know that this pain isn't endless for no reason?!  And hoping that its not leading to a C-section?  :(  Grumpy this morning...

This is prodromal labor - I had it with my first for over a week. It can be exhausting because it gets you on edge. I recommend ignoring it as much as possible and not even trying to time them until they're painful or your water breaks. My doula said it often happens trying to get the baby in a better labor position.

  • Try spending some time on your hands and knees rocking back and forth as well as sitting on an exercise ball.

I'm no help, I ended up having an induction at 40 wk 1 day last time because of this same thing.  Two weeks of being up between 1-6 am with contractions drove me mad. I decided if I was going to be up all night anyway I wanted a cute baby to make it worth it. lol  Try to hold out, I hope something happens for you soon.

  • Oy, you poor thing. :[ I wish I could help, that sounds miserable. I hope it gets better or something happens soon.

  • I hear you.  I will join your misery.  Mine aren't as close as yours.. but since last Friday I have been having contractions... mine were 4-5 minutes apart and they sent me home.  For me to be admitted I only have to be in "active labour" or water breaks, or if Im 3-4 cm

  • I've had contractions lasting 1-2 mins around 5 mins apart constantly since Wed. most aren't that painful.  Only maybe 10 somewhat painful ones within a 24 hr period.  Doc said try to ignore them, but if I can't then call the hospital and tell them you are coming in for Prodromal labor.  I haven't had an internal yet, so idk what my progress it.  Benedryl might help you sleep.  I'm sorry your so uncomfty!  Hope you can find some relief somehow.

  • Ugh, this sounds miserable. I was 1.5cm dilated, 50% effaced on Monday morning and woke up early Tuesday morning with intense contractions (just like you're having!). After a few hours of these awful contractions, we went to L&D, and there I was thinking that all that pain must have done something and nope, nothing had changed. The crazy thing is, I don't even know how I got to 1.5cm because I hadn't had any contractions...but then when I did, nothing.

I've had a lot of cramping, but nothing like you're describing after that night. Have you asked your OB about it? I wouldn't take the morphine either. Try to be optimistic...women go from nada to 10 in the same day every day! Maybe it means you'll have a quick and easy labor since your body will be so used to the motions already :)

  • I working on only a week of contractions about 1-2 minutes each, somewhere around 5-15 a day (it's got a lot of variance). No dilation, no effacement. Lame. I'm still farther away than you, but I'm not excited about the possibility that this could continue on. At my last OB appt, she said that was totally normal and it helped get the baby into position. Not a fan.

  • This sounds awful. I just started having pretty intense period cramps with back pains this morning and they have lasted all day. I have to breathe and concentrate through them. But they are only lasting 30-40 sec ever 4-10 minutes so it's not consistent yet (and I'm a little in denial maybe that this is the beginning of something real). Yours sounds way worse and if what I'm feeling today lasts two weeks I think I'd go nuts! Hope you progress soon.
  • I am right there with you!!! It is awful!

I went and got checked too and my nurse was awesome. She said hot baths and tylenol pm to help me sleep.

I was 50% effaced and 1 cm dilated last Thursday. My doc stripped my membranes on Thursday, I had bloody show Friday.. Still nothing yet!  Had contactions and cramps all day yesterday and partially into the night yet again.. and then nothing!!

No reason to think your headed toward c- section.

Sounds like you're on your way girl!  Thoughts and prayers with ya!

Thanks for the optimism and thoughtful responses ladies.  I'm drinking water, sucking ice (weird, ya... but I crave it?  lol), and getting lots of naps between painful times.  Here's to NOT going past the EDD, and hopefully no CS.  FTM and totally clueless with the whole 'is this labour or just regular 38 week crap' business.  :S!
