Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Would this worry you?

My 8-month old isn't interested in solids...  He won't do purees at all and will eat only 3-5 Cheerios (or bites of cheese or fruit, etc.) at a sitting.  Should I be worried?  Why won't he eat solids??  Thanks in advance.

  • Some babies don't care for solids at this age. Food is suppose to be just for fun under the age of one, so I wouldn't worry too much. Just keep offering him various foods and he will come around when he's ready. Or he may not care for pur?ed foods, which is ok too.

Some children are just not eaters. I have found my son does better if he is not eating alone. A lot of times he won't finish his food if I'm just feeding him but he will eat all his food and some of mine if I am eating at the same time.

And I wouldn't worry to much as long as he will take some even a couple of bites.

  • Have you tried cereal?  If not maybe try that with some fruit mixed in so its kinda sweet.  Just a thought!  My baby has always Loved eating so I dunno what to do about it.  But he is more interested in what I'm eating.

My baby now wants real food and not baby food in a jar so I've been working on finding more things I can share with him at dinner!

  • Just keep trying. DS wasn't into it at all, and then one day he just started going to town eating solids and couldn't get enough.  I'd try different foods until he finds one he likes.  Our first big hit was shredded cheese.

  • Nope.  As long as he's getting all his nutrients some way and his weight is fine I wouldn't be too concerned.

  • Thanks so much for all of your thoughtful replies.  I'll keep trying different things but trying not to worry about it.  Smile
