hey everyone....i just miscarried at 5 weeks pregnant a day ago. I am so devastated. It was our first planned pregnancy. The other two were when i was younger. Doctor says i have to wait 3 months to try again and that is really depressing to have to wait so long

I'm so sorry for your loss.

If I may ask, did your doctor say why you must wait for thee months before TTC again?

My doctor said that DH & I can start trying again as soon as I have my first negative pregnancy test (which will be taken after I finish miscarrying and have a follow up U/S).. as long as we are mentally/emotionally ready to start trying again.

I think this situation is really depressing for us all as it is, and I too would be even more depressed if I had an extra couple of months tacked on to the waiting game.

Have you had any chromosome or genetic testing or uteran sonograms done?

I am so sorry for your loss.

I would suggest that you speak with your obgyn on testing for recurrent pregnancy loss. I am in the process of starting this now. Feel free to PM me if you like as I can send you some of the information I have gathered.

Also, I would also check with your obgyn and ask him to better explain why you should wait 3 months. I was told to wait 2 months after my first m/c at 11 weeks. My CP was just shy of 5 weeks and my obgyn didnt tell me to wait at all before TTC again...although, I ended up miscarrying again with this pregnancy which was the bfp I got on the cycle after my CP so maybe waiting would have been better. I am definitely beginning to believe that its really important to give your body time to heal. I am sure if you speak with your obgyn he can give you further insight into why he recommends you wait that long.

I didnt ask really. all he said was that it takes time for the uterus to get back to normal and that if i got pregnant before then it wouls probably end the same way. He also told me atfer six weeks i could come in and they could do an xray of my uterus to see if there were fybroids or cysts inside the uterus, but he also said he would refer us to a genetisist but i dont think they will get very far because my father was adopted. He said that if it was my hormone levels that i would be having problems ttc not keeping the baby alive. Ive read a lot of different things but im scared to have another loss.

There is no medical proof that this is true. I wouldn't normally say this - the line is normally "do what your dr. says" , but in this instance I think a 3 month avoidance period is a bit extreme after a 5 week loss unless there are other extenuating circumstances that you are not telling us about. There are plenty of women who go on to have successful pregnancies the cycle after a chemical pregnancy (which is when there was no visible development to be seen via ultrasound, which there most likely wasn't at a 5w loss) He also told me atfer six weeks i could come in and they could do an xray of my uterus to see if there were fybroids or cysts inside the uterus, but he also said he would refer us to a genetisist but i dont think they will get very far because my father was adopted. this isn't an issue - they test you & your husband, Your father's adoptive past is a non issue. Ive read a lot of different things but im scared to have another loss. we all are. do take your time to let your emotions heal. The fear will never go away, but at some point your desire fora baby will overcome your fear, and you will be ready to try again.

At what stage were your previous miscarriages?

I would ask for a referral to an RE so that you can have a full testing panel done. This would include testing for blood clotting issues, hormones, egg quality, and karyotyping/genetics . However, many insurance co. won't cover this testing without 2-3 confirmed pregnancy losses (pregnancies that have been confirmed by your dr., not just a positive pregnancy test).

I'm so sorry for your losses...I just went through 1 and can't imagine 3. My heart goes out for you and I wish all the best in planning for another baby.

my first was when i was 15....i was so embarrassed and scared and i didnt even know i was pregnant. The only reason i know it was a mc was because i saw a sac that looked like a sac of raw eggs in the toilet( sorry i know its gross) . I didnt go to a doctor so it was never confirmed and the second was when i was 19 and again i didnt go to the drs but i new it was because of what i saw in the toilet. I had told 2 previous drs about them and they just brushed them off and it really upset me that they treated me like i was an idiot because i know what i saw. The doctor i just saw for this mc was the only one to believe me but he said that its more common then i think to have 3 miscarriages and not have anything wrong with me.
