How are your Fur-babies reacting at this point?

I have 2 dogs (an 8 year old lab/pit mix, and a 2 year old heeler/aussie mix) and they are both really anxious. Scout, our heeler is not really sure about the baby stuff and gets very confused when my belly moves (DS kicked her when she was laying with me a few weeks ago and she gave me the oddest look). Smokie, our lab mix won't let me out of his sight except at night, then he sleeps in the babies room. We know Smokie is going to be great with the baby (he LOVES kids) but we are going to watch Scout closely because babies scare her.

  • I've had the baby stuff out for a while. At first, my dog was scared of it all, but now she's used to it. She has actually gotten more friendly in the last few weeks. During the first few months of my pregnancy, she was really weird around me. She normally likes to snuggle on the couch, but she didn't want to be anywhere near me. Now she is always by my side and will come up and snuggle like she did before.

  • Our furbaby (1.5 year old cocker spaniel) is a bit nervous around the baby stuff and she whines a bit more if we have to separate her when we have company or are cleaning (she tends to get underfoot and I don't want her to get hurt by the chemicals). However, I think she will figure it out. She has never been scared of new people and I think with time, she will get used to it.

  • My almost 3yr old Rottie/St. Bernard mix is used to the baby stuff by now. She really just sniffed it all tons when it first got here and now completely ignores it. She cuddles more with me now than she ever did before I had a nice pillow for a belly too. The first few times LO kicked her she looked at me wierd but now she's used to it. I'm just sad we have to put her in a kennel while I'm in labor, but I just know she'll be great with baby when she gets  here. Though she may be jealous of all the attention LO gets and not her. I'll try to keep giving her attention and cuddles too.

  • I have 2 dogs as well and they are both completely uninterested in the baby stuff (to my surprise) but very interested in my tummy.  Just recently my 9 yr old female pitbull started intently sniffing me at least once a day. I am assuming she may be checking me for signs of labor LOL.  I keep watching for a different reaction from her as a sign that the baby may soon be coming.  Other than that she is so laid back, I have no worries about her and the baby.

My 2 1/2 yr old male (pit/boxer mix) is obsessed with my belly button.  He finds it through any number of layers of clothes to sniff it.  He is much more nervous around new people so still planning on bringing a blanket home early for him to investigate and plan on letting his examine the baby pretty early one.  He is a licker but that is the only way I think he will be able to relax about the new noisy person in the house.

My cat is all over me. I'm usually her person anyway but she's moved from sleeping at the foot of the bed to right next to me and wants to cuddle more than usual.

She did the same when I was pregnant with DS even though we'd only had her a few months at that point. Must be an intuitive protective thing.

  • We have a mother and daughter boxer duo. (Roxy 8 and Lexi 6) They are very loving dogs on a regular basis.  They follow me around most of the time....but at night it's extreme.  They both sleep in the bedroom with us. On the weekends when DF is out of town working I will wake up to them sleeping in his spot !( which is a big no no)  When I wake up during the night to pee they both get up, follow me downstairs, sit in the doorway while I pee (and stare...creepy), follow me back to the bedroom and stare at me until I fall back asleep. This happens 3 times a night.  It's hysterical to watch. I also catch them sitting outside of Baby Alivia's room just staring at her stuff. The day I started painting is the day the room became off limits to them and they follow the rules pretty well!  I think it's going to be so great to see them interact with her! They have been part of our family for years and it will be fantastic to have them with us to welcome the newest member Baby Alivia :)

  • My animals are completely unfazed. We have a 3 year old dachshund/jack russell mix, a 4 year old Himalayan cat, and a 1 year old orange tabby. The kitten was curious about the crib and swing at first (and even went for a ride) but just avoids everything now.

  • My dog still acts the same. I try to involve him with anything I do baby-wise and take him in the baby's room with me if I go in there. I think he'll be great with the baby though.

  • He is sweet, he is asking for more snuggles than usual.  I am pretty sure he knows that there is a big change about to happen.  What is sweet is he randomly comes up to me and kisses my tummy.

  • My dogs haven't changed much.  They know they are not allowed in the baby's room.  When DH and I are in the room putting it together, they will lay right outside the doorway in the hallway.  Our 3-year old dog has always had anxiety, so per my vet's recommendation, we got her a thundershirt to help and she has been a different dog since.  We hope it helps when people come to visit because she gets the most anxious when people come over.  Our other dog is great.  I think he will be very curious when we bring LO home.  The most harm he would do is lick the baby.

  • Umm, nucking futs, seriously. Both of my cats have been complete spazzs. My big cat (my cat) has been extra loving, and she meows pathetically when she's not in the same room as me. My little cat (DH's cat) has also been super affectionate, and generally she wants nothing to do with me. Both of them have been very playful, too. Normally they're just lazy :p

  • i have two sister 3 year old lab mutts.  one of them has always been super anxious and its def been showing recently.  we've had baby stuff out for a while (swing, car seat, RNP, etc...) and they are allowed in the baby room. they dont really care about the baby stuff but i can tell all the changes are making my one dog even more anxious. our dogs get super jealous of each other, if we pet one of the them the other bounds across the room and pushes her way in to get attention. im hoping this doesn't get too bad when the baby is here and she's getting the attention!
