Places to go/activity ideas for newborn baby

My mom and brother are flying 5000 miles to be with us in September when the baby comes. Mom is staying for 6 weeks and brother for 2 weeks. I am looking for some ideas on what to do and places we could go with a wee little baby that will be fun for all of us. I live in the north St Paul suburbs. FTM here so I am totally clueless!

Thank you!!

Re: Places to go/activity ideas for newborn baby

  • When they are newborns you can pretty much go anywhere.  Put them in a carrier and they will sleep the whole time (usually).  Also, the first 1-2 weeks I wasn't too inclined to go out and do stuff other than errands, I was recovering and snuggling a baby:)

  • Como Zoo, any Nature Center (there's a great one in Roseville), an apple orcherd (we like the one near Afton)....

But, as you come up with ideas, also come up with a list of activities that your mom and brother would enjoy WITHOUT you.  I know with our newborn, we needed lots of time at home, sleeping in something other than a carseat, tons of nursing time, etc.  I know when my family visited I struggled with wanting to host/entertain them...while knowing my priority was caring for my newborn. So, think about things they would like to do while you are doing those things, if you might want a break.  Possibly the Mall of America, Guthrie Theater, a comedy club, Canterbury Park, Treasure Island, the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, Science Museum...all of the basic tourist spots:)

This exactly. You're not going to have tons of energy for running around and doing stuff - and truthfully newborns don't care. They want snuggles and milk :) Enjoy your baby!!
