Babies: 0 - 3 Months

sore wrists

I have recently had sore wrists. It hurts to lift my baby and he's not heavy (almost 8 pounds). It also hurts to rotate my wrists.  I was wondering if anyone else has had this.  I did not have carpel tunnel syndrome during pregnancy but I'm wondering if it could be that or??

Re: sore wrists

  • i have it too! mine has been since my 8th month of pregnancy though, it just hasnt gone away yet. i assumed mine is carpel tunnel related, but have not gotten it checked out yet. i've just been powering through the pain, but mine is only in my right hand/thumb area.

  • I get this sometimes. Only at night and comes and goes. I've read it can be common for new moms..

  • dequervain's tenosynovitis. This is what my doctor diagnosed me with. My tendon pops out of place sometimes and it's so very painful. Only in my left wrist and I read that it is very common with new moms from holding the baby's head. I've been wearing a wrist splint because the cure for it is rest, but who isn't going to hold their baby?!? So far it's been helping quite a bit. I hope this helps!
  • I got this in my left wrist - specificially on the outer edge of my thumb.  Pretty sure it's from holding the baby while nursing.  Try holding your LO with your forearm more than with your hand to take the strain off your wrist and tendons.
