NBR: Graduate School Question

I have my BA in Elem. Ed.  I wasn't planning on going back to school until I had some experience under my belt, but it seems that God may have other plans for me (although I'm still hopeful, as the school year hasn't started yet FX majorly!).  I am really toying around with going back now/next semester.  I know I can google and I have done a few quick searches (I made this decision today mind you) but are there specific places to look for grants and scholarships for grad. students? The sites I've looked at were vague. The rep at my alma mater said there was an automatic educator grant that would take $60.00 off each credit hour.

Sorry for my lack of paragraphs and any other typos , buming from my phone.

Re: NBR: Graduate School Question

  • I think you always start by filling out the FAFSA and you may automatically qualify if you have low enough income. I'm not sure if there are quite as many grants for grad schools but I know assistantships are more common and some of them come with living stipends depending on the type of program and school. I would maybe look at professional organizations related to the field you will be studying as well.

  • It depends on what you're studying, but your department may have specific grants related to your field. When I got my master's in Speech-Language Pathology, there was a grant that covered all of tuition plus some living expenses. There were some extra classes that the grant students had to take, plus they had to commit to 2 years serving low income schools for each year they received the grant.

Good luck with your decision and logistics if you end up going now!

  • Teacher here and I just started grad school this summer. I could NOT find a thing. My alma ater was cheaper by 100 an hr but I had to attend for minimum of 6 weeks in summer decided to go online route.

What are you thinking of studying?

I am currently in grad school and a high school teacher.  I have never heard of this.  It would be nice though if it was true.

It may be state or eve school specific.  I'm checking into other schools as well.  Thanks ladies!

  • I had a graduate assistantship during grad school. I worked for a professor at the school. I worked 20 hrs/week and it covered all my tuition and fees, as well as paid me $8/hr. (School Psychology)

  • Around here we have agencies that cater specifically to teachers and are associated with a local university. They are cheaper, very hands-on, and the schedule is built around teachers, which would probably work well for moms too. I got both my masters and CAGS through one of these, but my degrees say the name of the state university on them. Maybe look into that option?
