Babies: 0 - 3 Months

How fussy/"high maintenance" is your baby? (Poll)

Just curious.  I've heard people say, "I have such an easy baby!"  That is definitely NOT how I'd describe LO.  It seems like if he's awake he's fussy or crying.  The quiet moments are very few and far between.[Poll]

  • I don't think he is very fussy but my H would definitely disagree. He thinks I've "spoiled" him already. Um, how do you spoil a newborn? Ugh

  • Hi umich! How are you doing? isn't it crazy that we now have outside babies? I still find it hard to believe most days that I don't have to give him back! So I've read some of your recent posts about your little one and I can definitely relate to the gas issues. my LO does not poop regularly (average is every 4 or 5 days!) And so his gas levels are insaneand he can get VERY uncomfortable. he is generally not a super fussy baby..cries when wet, cold or hungry and once you fix it he is calm. But that being said I still think there are a few very challenging things with LO. He was diagnosed with laryngamalacia which makes feeding very difficult and often scary as he chokes on the milk. His infrequent pooping also worries us a ton despite the peds doctors thoughts that it's ok as long as he is not too uncomfortable. So I guess our LO is also high maintenance in other ways... I hope you are settling into motherhood..i know foyer new it's taking quite a while to figure everything out:)

  • DD cries when she has a reason, but during her evening fussy time, all bets are off. She becomes a gremlin! lol

It all depends on how much sleep she gets.

  • Overall, he's a very easy baby. If he's gassy or something is really bothering him, he cries and screams uncontrollably. He has high maintenance moments but he's pretty laid back otherwise.

  • Natalie fusses any time she's awake. Not all out crying, and not very loud, but CONSTANT. She has reflux and bad gas problems, though...so that's mostly to blame. She's always grunting and straining and "talking to us" about it!

She only really cries to be fed. Never cries about dirty/wet diapers, etc.

  • "I have a very high maintenance baby...super fussy, crying, etc. when awake."

This made me laugh... DS2 is supper fussy "when awake" which is a lot because DS2 doesn't sleep well... boo reflux and milk intolerance!

  • DS has literally screamed or cried for I'd say 90% of the time he's been awake today which has pretty much been all day. DH and I are exhausted.

  • We are very lucky---DS thankfully is super-mellow. I have an almost four year old DD and while she wasn't too difficult, she definitely would have crying jags during the "witching hour," would sometimes be fussy for indeterminate reasons.  DS basically cries for two reasons....he's hungry or he wants to be picked up.  As soon as you pick him up he'll stop crying and start grinning at you.  He'll sit on my husband's lap or in the baby carrier happily for a couple hours. You can even put him to bed awake and he'll sometimes drift off on his own (sometimes I do have to nurse him a bit more or stick in a pacifier). DD would NEVER do that.

I fully credit my husband's calm demeanor for having such an easy baby. He is also super-mellow, whereas I am more prone to anxiety. I think it's just an inborn trait. Also, I'm sure being second-time parents helps.

  • Sylvia only fusses when she's hungry, needs to be changed, or wants to be held.  Usually she falls asleep on daddy (and gets mad when he tries to eat, LOL).

  • I'm afraid to jinx it, but DD has been a lot better the last few days. However, up until now she's definitely been fussier than I expected.
