Mom Banned from FB for BF pic

https://blogs.babycenter.com/mom_stories/07272012-mom-banned-from-facebook-over-%e2%80%98indecent%e2%80%99-breastfeeding-photo/

Lets discuss.

As cute and as ?natural? that I may agree this is, it still should not be on FB. These pics can get out for anyone to see and as innocent as I see it, a pervert would see it in a whole new way.

Re: Mom Banned from FB for BF pic

  • I agree that it was innocent and the mother thought it was cute, and you're right about the perverts out there. This probably shouldn't have been put on FB, because it seems really private. I feel ashamed of myself for having seen it, because these little girls will be ashamed of this picture being all over the internet when they're older even though they were just playing. Bless their hearts.

  • BFing is natural and all that but not when a 5yo is pretending to feed her 2yo sister. As a mother, a BFing mother, I would never take a picture of my children like that, let alone post it online for all to see. I honestly don't even know that I'd allow my children to continue playing like that. I mean, yes, BFing is a natural thing and it's good to make sure children grow up knowing that so they have a better chance at succeeding should they choose to go that route, but it's natural for a mom and her baby. I'd even go so far as to say it's natural for an older child to mimic mom and nurse a doll, but siblings? Sorry. No.

  • eehh...yeah I wouldn't even feel comfortable taking that picture. I would just try to explain to my child "nursing is very normal but it is for grown-ups to do". I don't think that pic was appropriate for the internet! And now instead of it just being on facebook it's getting picked up by new stations so now even more creeps can see it.
  • I dunno. I don't think the mom should have uploaded it to Facebook. Whether it's "sexual" or not, or whether they shouldn't be playing like that, I have mixed feelings, but I don't want my mom posting pics of me playing in the bathtub as a baby either, y'know?

  • The U.S. is one of a few countries that sexualize breasts to the point that breastfeeding is almost seen as something sexual because it involves a breast. I don't think there is anything unnatural or necessarily private about breastfeeding (but of course each person is allowed to feel as they wish included that breastfeeding is a private moment, just clarifying), but this particular picture does weird me out. I agree with the PP that I would say something akin to "this is what grown ups do" if my kids were to try something like that. I certainly wouldn't post it or any other kid in the bathtub/kid running around butt naked in the summer type pics.

  • Definitely inappropriate to post a picture like that on FB, regardless of what your feelings are on BF. Same goes for all the naked tub pictures and all that. There are way too many sickos out there that thrive on seeing pictures like that. Some things are best left kept in a real photo album.
