BF and wine?

I did not drink at all when I was pregnant and was looking forward to my first glass of wine for 9 months. Now that LO is here and I am pumping every 3 hours I am afraid to drink still. I have asked my Pedi and the LC and both gave vague answers about drinking and BF. I have heard it is okay as long as it has time to get out of your system before you feed or pump again but I can't get myself to take the leap and have a glass. Anyone else in this boat? I don't know what to do...advice or suggestions?

 Thanks

Re: BF and wine?

  • After my first, I enjoyed a glass of wine almost nightly and was breastfeeding every 2 to 3 hours.  My pedi said if I don't feel it, then there is NOTHING to worry about. I think you'll see various responses/suggestions, but I figured if this is what I was hearing from a pediatrician, I was okay with that!

Enjoy your wine...I'm counting down the days (minutes, actually) until I can have my first glass in 9 months, too!!

I am doing the same thing - pumping every three hours.  The literature that my birthing classes gave said that if you have to drink give your body 2 hours per drink before you give that milk to baby.  And of course they recommend not drinking at all while BF.  I am going to a BBQ tonight and debating having my first drink - I think I will probably end up skipping the drink in the end.  If I avoided alcohol for 9 months I can do it for a few more!
