Opinions please- sleep/feed question

Since my boys have been home from the nicu I have kept them on the same 3 hour feed/change schedule as they did there. During the night hours I am waking them to feed I would say 9 out of 10 times. My question is, am I doing this correctly or should I be less conscious of the time and allow them to sleep longer? I'm starting to wonder because they are just out cold half the time and don't even want the bottle and I'm starting to feel bad. Should I be looking for more readiness cues or at this early stage ( almost 3 weeks), is it imperative to wake every 3 hours?

  • What are their weights?  How much do they eat during the day?  I would ask your pediatrician.  Ours had us continue to wake them until their EDD.

  • We brought LO home on Wednesday...she's roughly 36 weeks gestational age now...they told me if she slept through one feeding it wasn't a big deal, but not to let her sleep through two.  So far she has let us know every 3-4 hours that she is hungry so it hasn't been an issue :)  I'd ask your pedi.

  • Just got back from the pedi. They are 4.14 and 5.10. He told me I can drop a night feeding since they are gaining weight and thriving. I guess we will give it a whirl. Yay for more sleep at least.
