Anyone's pets acting weird? We have an eight month old male Jack Russell Terrier/Chihuahua (who is not fixed...YET!) and he is driving me crazy. I've heard before that pets can be weird around preggos, but I've never had a dog while pregnant before. He's just a total spaz around me. He's been my m/s buddy on the couch, but today I was only down until about 10:30 (YAY!), so he was just all spastic and weird. Even this evening when I was sitting by dh. He's driving me nuts! For being a Jack Russell he's a pretty chill dog for the most part, thank goodness.

Re: Pets
It's cool you posted this because I've been thinking my dog has been acting weird lately and was wondering if it had anything to do with me being pregnant. He sits and stares at me and whines - I make sure he has food, water, and put him outside, but he will still do it. So annoying and I don't know what he wants! I'm sure my hormones aren't helping with my annoyance either, lol!

my 3 year old Border Collie/Jack Russel mix has been super protective of me... If DH and I kiss/hug, he either barks at us, or jumps up on our legs to get between us (he doesn't really jump, just gets on his hind legs and puts his front ones on our leg so we can pet him without bending over). he has also been my couch buddy when I nap or don't feel good. He's been good company for the most part...
I am a bit worried though, we live in the country and anytime deer, groundhogs, rabbits, or a fox runs by he goes crazy barking - not sure how to control that once the baby comes... before we wouldn't mind because he also announces when people are on our property, but I'm a bit worried he will wake up the baby...
We ran into this with our chihuahua, too, but we're already making progress. She does better when she's being held. Knowing this, I've held her during some of the events that I know make her crazy. When she starts that little pre-bark rumble that most dogs do, I quickly put my face by hers and say in a hushed voice, "Shhhhh... Baby's sleeping." She's starting to understand the worlds and knows that I get very upset if she goes on a barking rampage. She gets put down and is completely ignored for a good 20 minutes or so after each rampage. The outbursts are becoming fewer & far between. Good luck!
As for the OP's question: Both of my dogs (both rescues who have been the babies of the family for a couple of years) know what's up. They are very protective of me. It's like I'm one of their own kind. They must protect Mama until she has those puppies she's carrying around! Whatever their motivations, I try to keep in mind that they think they're helping - and that sometimes they actually are. Babies that grow up in homes with pets are statistically proven to have stronger immune systems, too. I try to remember that when the dogs start to drive me crazy.
