Spotting??

I just went to the bathroom and noticed a spot of blood in my pantiliner. It wasn't a huge amount, maybe what I would get if I stuck my finger. No cramping, nothing on the toilet paper, just one rogue spot.

Something I should watch or call L & D ?

Re: Spotting??

  • Just keep an eye on it. If you develop steadier bleeding or start leaking fluid or feeling contractions that you can time, call L&D or go to the ER.

  • I had that a week ago and nothing since. How far along are you? It's possible that maybe you've started to dilate a little bit, and a blood vessel "up in there" broke or something. I wouldn't worry unless the spotting gets heavy or you feel a lot of discharge, like maybe your water broke. The last few weeks are kind of like 1st trimester again..a lot of us are going to have weird spotting/bleeding because of cervical changes that are starting to occur.

  • Pretty normal to have some spotting toward the end.  If you have been / will be checked, you will likely spot, also.  It's because your cervix is starting to change.

Unless you see a large amount of red, not pink, I would not worry about it.

  • My dr told me at my last appointment spotting is normal, period like flow is not.  Hope that helps.

  • I had 4 dry (or dark in color) blood spots... I hadn't had sex or anything. I was a little worried so I called the doctor. She said it's normal. Probably just from a little stretching out inside. As long as it's not bright fresh red blood (and more of it) then it's not a problem. I told her I was a mile from the hospital and could stop by, she said there is no reason to. She wasn't even concerned a little bit! I wouldn't worry at all but if you are ever in doubt, a call is always OK. :)
  • I was told spotting = go in.

  • That happened with my first pregnancy and the doctor told me to go to the hospital (since it was on the weekend). It wound up just being a UTI. If it's not that much blood or anything and it doesn't get worse, mention it to your doc next time you go in. I think that can happen too as your cervix dilates.
