1st Trimester

What are you eating?

I was sick 24/7 for 15 weeks with DD. I'm starting to feel sick now with this pregnancy but it's different. I feel ok, then I'm hungry, then I feel sick right after I eat. No matter what I eat. I also go from food aversion and not wanting to eat anything to completely ravenous. I really want to be healthy this pregnancy, I wasn't last time around and I gained 55lbs and had GD. This is making it hard to do! Anyone find any healthy snacks that arent causing nausea? Oh and anything that reduces bloat? I feel huge!

Re: What are you eating?

  • When I was really queasy, I ate rice cakes, and they helped a bit. Not great, but they weren't too high on the calorie and fat count for a snack. I had the whole grain ones. I had graham crackers in the morning sometimes too. I don't know if you can eat dried fruit, but I also ate raisins and dried cranberries. They weren't too bad on my nausea.

I don't know of anything that helps with the bloat besides water really.

I hope you feel better soon!

  • I have been eating a lot of chicken broth with quinoa.  The quinoa is a great substitute for rice and it's low glycemic index, so it doesn't make my sugar spike.

  • I know it's stereotypical, but sometimes some ice cold cottage cheese tastes good when I'm queasy. And if not, I can usually eat applesauce.
  • What am I eating?  Everything.

Lol, so not really, but that's what it feels like.  The last few days have been crazy.  I have been soooo hungry.

Make sure you're drinking enough fluids, it could be that you're really thirsty and your body is mistaking it for hunger.

I am a health freak and a big cook!  My diet typically contains anything that is not processed, contains any food dyes, hormones, prepackaged, and is low in saturated fat.  The rule of thumb is to shop within the outer perimeter of the store, and not in the food aisles.  I agree with the person who posted about the quinoa!  It is is an awesome superfood!  It is packed with protein, fiber and is a complex carbohydrate.  There are various other health benefits.  Google some recipes.  It is a very versatile food and can be prepared various ways.  I have been also eating a lot of lentils and broccoli.  These fiber rich foods help decrease bloat as well.  Water ultimately is essential and has really helped my bloat.  Extreme thirst has been one of my pregnancy symptoms, so I have had no problem drinking up.
