I've never had a yeast infection, however, I now have the symptoms of one. I'm 7.5 weeks pregnant. The nurse at my gyne office told me to use the 7-day treatment of Monistat.
I have the Mayo Clinic pregnany book. It suggests Monistat is to be "used with caution."
The pharmacist said that it's pregnancy category C, which is just that there are no studies showing any ill effects to the baby. She did say that gyne lotromin should NOT be used in the 1st trimester.
I'm confused. Anyone have any experience with this?
Re: Yeast Infection
I'm allergic to Monistat. Instead, I take a pro-biotic and plenty of water.
There is a prescription alternative to Monistat. I forget what it's called.
Monistat is perfectly safe in pregnancy. There no need to suffer.

I am almost 6 weeks and within that time has had 2 yeast infections. I was actually at the ER around 1 this morning because the pain was SO intense. With both of my yeast infections, I was told to use gynelotromin and strictly NOT to use Monistat. The first time, my GP told me to use gynelotromin but I couldn't find it. The generic of gynelotromin is clotrimazole. Depending on your location, at a store called Rite Aid, they have the 7 day cream. But after I left the ER this morning, CVS has the 3 day cream. The ER doctor told me gynelotromin as well. She also confirmed to me that Diflucan will not work either as it will harm the baby.
Don't be confused. It can definitely be overwhelming for sure! I have unfortunately had 1 too many yeast infections within my 28 years so that's the best advice that I can offer! I would purchase the medicine as quickly as possible! At both stores, it was about $13-$14. Be careful and try not to hurt yourself because I know just how HORRIBLE it can feel.
